Unknown barrel

This was on my Esprit back when I bought it off some guy in '03. It's on the heavier side, and looks to be a 2 piece. But, I have never been able to get it apart, even back when I first got the marker, even though I can see where it seperates inside. Anyway, it's obviously Spyder threaded and probably circa '03 since again, that was the year I got the marker. Anyone have any idea what it is and how I can get it apart aside from heating it up and twisting?

So, in other words it's made to look like a 2 piece, but it's really a 1 piece? And weight seems to back up it being stainless. Thanks for the info.

They are two pieces, but glued together.

Threaded, or just together? If it's threaded, then I know I can heat to glue to breaking point. I've had it for 9 years and it kind of urks me that I can't unscrew it.

Nope, no threads.

The appeal of these first two piece barrels was that they could have the supposed advantages of a stainless back, but they were easier to manufacture due to shorter parts and aluminum being simpler to work with. Aluminum also made the barrels much lighter. Unthreading the fronts and backs wasn't really a concern at all - they are literally just mated flat and glued together.

2pc barrels are far cheaper to produce than 1pc barrels. The reason is that 1/2 the barrel can be made from very cheap tube stock, instead of larger, much more expensive bar stock (to be machined).

Not much of a surprise that SP then convinced everyone that 2pc was some sort of an upgrade.... worth paying MORE for.
