Master chief? Where's the rest of him?

That'd be awesome if someoneput in a new goggle to replace the old possibly dangerous one. I wonder if thats possible.

the reason for the unreliable lenses was probably due to sharp edges in the plexi. When strained it breaks easily unless the sharp edges are rounded.

It's not the PMS mask... that was the one with rounded ear covers.

I will go and look that one up, but I seem to remember that it was called a Strategic Simulations Helmet or something like that.

Be right back.

Okay, I'm back.
If you check your APG's from 1991-92, you will find this for sale under all sorts of different names; "Pursuit Helmet", "Strategy Helmet", and the "Strategic Simulations Helmet".

Best I can figure is it might be a PMI product as it is featured on the players in several of their ads. Most likely, it was genericly produced and sold to alot of different distributers.

I have one that is unmarked. Very flimsy, but they looked great in the ads.

The PMS "Action Mask" was one of the first masks with built in ear protection and will be recalled as having those odd-looking round projections over the ears.

Cheers,
D.

Here is the PMS mask:

I think this one is called the Cool Max Mask:

Here is the AGD mask which I believe was made by PMI:

And here is the Stratedgy Games/Goggs mask, also on the lens of these masks they say "not warrented shatter proof," (luckily for Thug Mitch I have some extra lenses):

They were recalled in 1991, and again in 1992, but I remember seeing them being used as late as 1995. After the 1992 recall, most paintball magazines banned ANY ad featuring the masks. They were still being sold, but there was no way to tell if your mask was a pre 91, pre-92, or post-92, or if that even mattered, since none of them were safe.

They were made by a company called GOGGS for watersports, ie waterskiing, jetskiing, etc. They were never really designed for paintball. Around 1989, they approached PMI to market the "GOGGS" for paintball. It was renamed the PMI Pursuit Mask, and was quickly popular. After the recalls, PMI dumped them, and they renamed in the Strategy Mask, sold through smaller distributors.

I didn't care for them myself. At the time, I was wearing "goggles only", and the GOGGS just fogged up like mad for me. That was a problem for most, and a VERY COMMON mod was adding a simple DC fan. This was YEARS before the JT FAN, or TURBO Fan.
Apart from being very unsafe, they did have one odd aspect: When getting hit in the head, it made a very distinct: Pinnnnnnnnnnnng.

Isn't this one of the masks being worn with the video for the Vector guns?
