Leica M-3

The Leica M-3 once belonged to my old boss, Chet Maxwell, who owned Maxwell's Camera Shop in Kenosha. I worked for him from 1969 until he passed away in 1974. The camera must have been sold my his heirs. Indeed, was used professionally. We all owned Leica's, but mine was stolen in 1972. That lense is a dual-range sumicron, and should have an additional range-finder that attaches for micro work. The lense is probably worth more than the body.

That is awesome! I spent a year trying to figure out who Chet Maxwell was. I really do appreciate the back story. Sadly I don't have the range finder that goes with the lens. This particular Summicron has an element floating inside as well so I'm *not* selling it with the body.

I suppose I'm on a mission to find the range finder, I have a slight inkling to its whereabouts.

Bump!

The last time I saw that camera it was in excellent condition, but that was a long time ago. It's had some use since. May I ask where you found it?

It was given to me as a gift from my old yearbook/photo teacher at Rockbridge County High School in 2009. She didn't tell me much about it but to be honest I didn't ask. The camera was sitting in the camera storage at the school for some time if I remember correctly. I suspect that her husband actually was the one who originally got it, but that is pure speculation on my part. Next time I see her I'll ask how they happened upon it. Hopefully she has the rangefinder too but we'll see.

Fascinating. This reminds of of the book "Paddle to the Sea." I wonder how it got from Kenosha to you. If you find the attachment, tell me how much you want for the entire camera and lense. The condition is rough, and it will cost a bundle to get it refinished (they often send them back to Germany), but it would be gratifying to see it again. I have pictures of it being used, but that goes back to 1970, which is probably well before your time. Thanks again for keeping in touch.

No problem, thank you for telling me who Chet was! If you want the camera as it is now I'll give you the lens. There's no guarantee that will I find the rangefinder.

Bump!

Thanks. I need until June, due to a 30th wedding anniversary trip to England. Funds for "fun" will have to wait until we return. Regards,
