according to my brother, whose job it is to know these things, the 1964-1972s are worth $1 The rest are worth face value. He buys the bicentennial ones because he likes them.

Silver coins look different from 'regular' coins. They are a bit more whitish in color. Couldn't you also tell from the edge of the coin? Non precious silver coins usually have a 2 tone edge(look at a quarter).

Actually, a really easy way to tell if its silver or not is to drop it onto a ceramic floor or something jsut as hard. The 'Ting' when it hits is of a higher pitch then when a normal coin hits the floor. Try it and you'll see (or hear rather) and it'll save your eyes from a stressful night. Ya only need to drop it a few inches so its nothing that will mark the coin.

Did you drop all 800 coins 5 minutes after she complained?
That's what I would have done. I have the same type of neighbor, she hates me.

Its easier just to look at the sides. I have a few silver quarters and other coinage. If you take a stack of coins and look at the edge you can get through the entire amount very quickly. The silver coins are also lighter and warmer than the composite coins. If you do have silver coins they make wonderful guitar picks.
