I havn't played since 2nd edition myself. No one local. =(
That doesn't bode well. I know they've been snatching it up here from a local bookstore, but I haven't heard anything review-wise.

I was digging around in some old boxes just a few minutes ago and came across "The Keep on the Borderlands - Module B2" from the old Basic set. One of the best adventures they ever made. Ahhhh... good times, good times.

Did you ever have the original Castle GreyHawk module? Some of the lower dungeon levels where straight up insane.

No, don't think we did. Is that the one that had all the crazy NPC characters in it?

Yeah like Gummi werebears and Indiana Gnome. Flapjack Flatners and the Ineddable Bulk. It was an insane romp but it had the best random encounter generator I have ever seen.

I heard about that one. I remember the Temple of Elemental Evil. That was a good game.

Ah, now we're talking! The Temple, Giants series, Drow, and the good ol' days when a Bard was a Thief->Fighter->Druid/Bard, not some weenie. Now THAT was fun!

I haven't gotten too into it myself but from what I've read on various forums it's either love it or hate it. It seems to be more streamlined like an MMO, that's what everyone compares it to. They did take out some things that people loved, like vampires can come out in the sun now, they got rid of some races and classes etc. A lot of old timers say it's just not D&D anymore but WoW.

But do you still have to burn trolls?! One of the guys we played with (Spoon, long boring story on his nickname) during his first game or two never could figure out why the troll he had just slashed into ribbons kept coming back after him a few minutes later. We laughed pretty darn hard after he killed it around 7 or 8 times in a row! We finally were able to stop long enough to tell him, "You gotta BURN the trolls, Spoon!"

My favorite module. I cheated once and snuck an anti-paladin into the campaign.

WTF 4th DMG has no rules?
