Another view. This is the least flattering view.
The tappered front of the handle does not have the same shiny surface as the rest of the handle.
The hardmetal lathe insert I was using was already "pre-broken" by someone else when I started to use the lathe to make the pump handle. I figured that it coule probably handle cutting plastic before retireing to the lathe insert graveyard. Well... It could, but with the cost of surface smoothness when cutting at 45degree angle.
