All of these, save for two of the profiled ones, are currently available. They're all 5" insert, and the straight ones can be profiled if necessary. Polishing is, of course, still an option.

This isn't all of them- I still have to cut a few XL blanks this weekend, plus I'm going to keep one or two for myself, and/or in case I screw something up or something goes missing in the mail, etc. But, we're coming down to the proverbial wire, folks. If you want one, don't wait too long.

From left to right, straight and plain (sanded to 800 grit) straight and polished, profiled and plain, and profiled and polished.

Weight of a profiled one is 155 grams- or only twice the weight of a regular back, rather than three times.

Okay, barring two that I need to do a little calculating on, I think I've replied to everyone that's inquired about a back. By my count I have enough to cover everyone, and a few extra- if anyone else is interested, let me get all of these taken care of, and we'll see how many are left.

And, as I said, I can always order more material.

Now, several of you have inquired about tips, although not everyone has specified what kind of tips. Something like a brass duplicate of my stubby M4 or Phase style should be easy.

But, I had an idea for those of you that might be interested in something like a brass All-American. I may be able to pick up some brass tubing of about the right dimensions, and make a threaded collar that can be soldered to one end.

Drilling the spiral holes will have to be done manually, and will be time-consuming. Read that as "not cheap". I'll be happy to do it for those interested, but it may take me a bit to find the right material (leads on reliable suppliers would be welcome) and get everything assembled.

First ones of the preorder will be going out Friday!



The first ones out the door will be the straight-profiled orders, and I'll spend some time this weekend doing the profiled orders. After all the paid ones are filled, I'll tally up what I have left, and start hitting the rest of you up, in order of inquiry.

If there's demand for more than I have blanks for, I can certainly order more material and make additional ones. The main reason I did the 'preorder' was to make sure there was enough interest- real interest- to justify the cost.

And, if anyone's interested, an aluminum back of this same profile is 70 grams. The brass one is 230. They're chunky.

... Which makes me want to make a solid brass VM-68. Anyone that could play five back-to-back games that that badboy, and not blow out a rotator cuff, would get a trophy.

Progress, gents! Took longer than expected- so what else is new?- but I got the tooling set up in the CNC this weekend. I set and proved the tooling first on some aluminum...



And once I was confident of the dimensions, I ran a couple of brass ones!







Unfortunately by the time I got everything set, I ran out of time for this evening. This week is looking pretty booked, too, but I should be able to run the rest through here and there, and hope to be able to start on the breech threads before next weekend.
