    JTER2 "MakoShark" Project

(Bringing this thread back from the dead to motivate myself to do another iteration of this project.)

This project started years ago, the initial idea being to design bolt-on printed parts that would make a "Walmart Special" JT-ER2 usable at a field and save it from adding to the landfills.

That first iteration (using SketchUp at the time) was also infused with some Boderlands video game fun for fun's sake.

^ This nonsense was tested (without LASER/Flashlight) at MVP in NH and the pump handle/horizontal tube feed/speed loader/CO2 cap chain absolutely made the ER2 usable against field rentals and speedballers alike. One electro wielding opponent took a ball to the "ball" in a 1-for-1 moment... I apologized after but he wasn't even remotely upset because I "did it with that thing".

<<3D Printer files for these parts>>

Click image for larger version Name:	StockER2.jpg Views:	15 Size:	1.17 MB ID:	115152
^ Another iteration was tested at a Slim's Stocktoberfest with a non-printed AA barrel mod. This thing performed WAY better than it should have and judging by the passive aggressive comments from the passer-by speedball kids at the field..... confused the hell out of people.

That version was enough fun that I decided to throw the time at a fully printed body kit designed for the JT-ER2. I started with this Spyder barrel thread adapter as a scale reference and designed everything around its dimensions.

^ Errant parts include a Phantom pump rod, a chopped VM-68 spring donated by MCB member Chaos and an actual 3D Printer spare part (hollow threaded tube from an extruder had the correct threading to mate the ER2 valve body to a constant air hose). That's bonus MAKER points right there.
This version was also tested at a Slim's Stocktoberfest over the 2-day event and got enough eliminations to be deemed a success by even the BrassEagle DemiGod itself, I would imagine.
    .
<<Here is an album of its evolution>>

    Notable Features:
    • All printed parts are sized to fit on a Replicator1 build plate
    • ABS, PLA and old formula NinjaFlex filament used where their properties were appropriate
    • The 2 piece ABS barrel is fully printed and Acetone-Honed
    • NinjaFlex was used in the speed-feed and soft-grip (based on old Dye 45 grip covers)
    • gas-thru grip!
    • Designed in MAYA LT with more of an "eyeballing it" free-form approach rather than a Fusion360 hard-nosed approach.
    • Tried to use Rainmaker's printed detent in the barrel but the stock ones were more reliable. I tried them in ABS but a semi rigid filament would be better. <<Files>>
    • Remixed an existing stick feed and hope to incorporate it into the body/barrel design more in the next version. <<Files>>
    • Complete project files are NOT currently available. I'm still open to collaboration if you don't mind a bit of messy geo in a Maya project.

Dang I can respect a man that designs 3D printed parts in Maya lmao I absolutely adore freeform modeling but more of a Max person.. but man Fusion is just heaven vs both of those. Awesome project, love the barrel it's my favorite part.

Thanks! The barrel mating of the two pieces was my main concern about it even being able to throw paint down range at all, let alone accurately. I wanted a normal barrel length with muzzle porting that would be a legit barrel upgrade for the ER2 but printable on an average desktop printer. I ended up with a quite decent barrel with mid-porting (due to a miscalculation) and an elliptical ID profile the length of the barrel. (Tight 3-point contact ID at the breach and muzzle but a larger ID in the center at the point the two halves meet.) A little sanding and acetone soaked paper towels through the barrel did wonders for the ID surface finish and helped bond the two ABS parts. No breaks at all due to any part of the barrel during testing.

Looks like a beast when it shoots. Got a bit of steampunk vibe to it kinda visceral look feel but a more spaceage vibe. Any ideas for future projects?

Lol, I appreciate your take on it. I've also gotten "LEGO Bricks" as commentary. I do have some project ideas that revolve around the MakoShark:
            • refine design a couple more times on larger print bed, allowing the stick feed (or parts of it) to be incorporated into the body box while allowing quick changeover to a hopper ideally.
            • do a design pass on the body box for flair or theme, overall polish. A couple of these will end up in a western/steampunk and AK-47 style with some wood/steel/brass filament.
            • do at least one version in milled aluminum or stamped metal. The tolerances I ended up being satisfied with were akin to the stamped out soviet style firearms, so a diesel-punk looking version is not out of the question.
            • Harvest ABS plastic paintball detritus, grind them up, extrude out some recycled filament and create at least one version that is birthed from the remains of its ancestors... maybe all old stingrays, tigersharks and talons? This one may include a ritual in the woods with a circle of candles to invoke the favor of the BrassEagle.
            • Since the parts of the MakoShark are already in Maya, create a small VR world based on one of the fields I've tested it on, with a pro-shop lobby that you can snap together a custom MakoShark (color/style/mode) in the lab and use it in a game out on the field (stocktoberfest recreation?). This one is after but parallel to an ongoing VR project based on the first paintball games in 1981 NH. Museum meets capture the flag. (fun note, the winner of the first official survival game never fired a shot)
            • Nail down the design to the point where I could equip and support a pump tourney team "Janky Python's Printed Circus". Evangelize personal 3D printing and distributed manufacturing in a fun way. Show off the customization aspect of 3DP with the colors and designs where every team member is the same but different... like the power rangers i guess lol.
            • With any amount of success or momentum with this... harangue JT into developing, releasing and hosting 3D print files of upgrades to their low level marker lines for free, in an effort to keep their low effort failure out of landfills by making them actually usable and fun to play with. I and others on this forum and on thingiverse have proven it's possible so they now have to take responsibility for their creation IMHO.

It's getting uglier but more effective and fun.

Needs to be at least 3x uglier! Nice feed upgrade tho.

Prepping for Slim's Western Scenario, messing with the Western theme while listening to messed-with epic Western muzac.
Made some MCB deputy badges if I go Sheriff and some StockLife belt buckles if I turn Outlaw.

It's hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh noon, don't mess with the Sheriff. The leather accents are nice makes me want to see and entire marker covered in leather (not a challenge lol do not attempt).

No no no this is all wrong. I can tell you from experience that if you are made to switch teams while playing Slim's stock class games, not only should you not change your badge, but you should definitely not tell your former team either.

I really want to do something like this with my Talon... Haven't decided on a theme yet though. Nice work!!

Chappy Oh no no no, let me clarify. Whichever side I land on for Slim's Scenario, I will disavow the other side completely and all associated symbolism. No Changing mid event lol.

However, I did make enough Bandito and Lawman swag/scenario props for everyone on both sides... i think. Pretty sure I have enough. There are 4 elite versions of each for the shot callers or big big ballers of each side. Or lottery to see who gets em, I have hats to pull from. I dunno.

Another iteration of the Western MakoShark. The small paint at AG for Slim's spring game prompted me to mod the barrel and add a Freak insert. My velocity was just in the dumps and rollouts were abundant. The barrel is now a bit shorter from some false starts and my refusal to print, sand and acetone-hone another barrel. After screwing things up and hacking off the shame... I ended up using an empty 12 gram (perfect size for a freak insert resizing!), a heat gun and a hobby clamp to create the room I needed to press fit an extra .684 I had. (shoulda went smaller and bought another insert but the OSG paint was pretty perfect fit) I'm now glad I used ~16% infill on the barrel and gave it a larger OD because the inner wall of plastic needed somewhere to go without changing the outer walls of the barrel body. All-in-all it shot really well all day and I ended up using it more than planned as other markers had their own issues.

Did some "smithing" to the barrel before reprinting in PLA last year and added some flair. This version has a re-ball sized freak insert.
