What else do people collect around here?

Obviously we all have large paintball collections but I'm wondering what everyone else collects around here?

Me I collect watches and have been getting into fishing so I've got a little collection of spoon style lures going.

Let's see what else the packrats around here collect or hoard.

Collections vary depending on what is interesting at the time.
    • I have a small collection of old tools- hand planes, saws, Yankee screwdrivers (I love those things), etc.
    • A boatload of music- at one point in time I was DJing and that stopped but I never really stopped buying music. I've cataloged almost 600 records onto Discogs and have another 5 or 6 crates to go through still. Loads of techno, house, gabber, hardcore techno, breakcore, and quite a bit of whatever else sounds good- lots of funk & soul, some hip hop, a good bit of rock / metal, and a whole lot of random crap. I'm currently trying to round out some discographies, which is not as simple as it sounds... I have a couple hundred CDs that I haven't even begun to go through.
    • Lego. Lots of Lego.
    • A decent (?) art collection. Mostly prints, with a few originals I've picked up from local artists or at conventions / local events.
    • and apparently lots bones and dog toys. She isn't spoiled at all 🙄

I keep my hobbies fairly narrow in total scope. That being said, militaria- weapons, uniforms, equipment, insignia, plus the research material to back it all up- is my major weakness. I focus primarily on five conflicts: the French Wars in Indochina and Algeria, the Portuguese Colonial War, the Rhodesian Bush War, as well as Late Cold War/early-mid '90's Bundeswehr*. I don't really count my tacticool gear as part of a collection since it's far more purposefully-oriented to me running around the bush (although I certainly have enough of that crap.. I mean gear).

*If anyone wants a bunch of Swiss Cold War gear, I'll let it go for the cost of shipping or free local pickup.

I like to collect flashlights, this is just all the Olights I own, I keep the surefire, and other brands else wear. Anyone else into lights? I also really enjoy collecting Swiss army knives.

          • Tools, never can find the one tool I need, at the time, so end up re-buying to only find original tool later. I never get rid of tools even broken ones because those tend to get modified into specialty tools.
          • Firearms, once upon a time I sold many of my firearms to support my paintball habit and ended up regretting so now firearm purchases are one way transactions (don't tell my wife )
          • Magic the Gathering Cards, I like the pretty artwork and the fact I can play with them is a bonus
          • Self-sufficiency literature, I am a "closet" survivalist (similar to a prepper for the young crowd). I grew up in a family of people who were very frugal and self sufficient to start then I worked odd jobs for twin brothers who were hold over from the hippy back to nature group and learned many ways to build things from "junk". I developed an interest that never has gone away and I love to read about and plan for my self-sufficient retirement.
          • scrap wood.....I always find some project I can do out of the scrap.
          • Seeds, my wife and I grow heirloom vegetables and try to propagate them so we have excess so we can preserve seeds for future use (see survivalist comment above)

I keep getting these free seeds in the mail from China. I planted them all and can't wait to see what they grow into. 😋

Coins of all sorts. Historic, foreign, precious metals, select exonumia

Local memorabilia. My home town has an "Old Home Week" every three years; to raise money the committee sells a button, decorated with ribbon, for a few dollars that serves as your entrance ticket for some of the events. Last year I missed a 1908 on eBay that sold for three bucks because I'd turned off notifications; I could have kicked myself

That nonsense going around your area too? The local news just had an bit from the PA dept of Agriculture about this.

back on topic - uh collect now? Do kids count?
things I’ve collected through the years - the hockey and baseball cards were true “collecting” everything else is intended to be used.

                - Hockey cards, baseball cards, Pokémon cards (learned how to play for the kids... now the wife and I play!).
                - Legos
                - tools - not “collecting” but my background is an automotive tech, so tools are life. I got a lot of tools.

When I was a kid, I collected football cards. Still have a little stash of them, actually. They were my most valuable cards back in the day... now it's impossible to even find a Beckett to try value them, so there they sit. Not that I care too much, either way.

Rocks. Used to collect rocks, too. Had a bunch of neat crystals and an assortment of igneous rocks. Gave it away to a "dolphin and dragon person" who liked the crystals I had.

Legos. I still need to get my Legos from my dad's house and give them to my daughters.

POGS... I miss my POGS. Had a whole tube of POISON sawblade slammers. Sold them in a garage sale when we were moving... shouldn't have done that.

GI Joe's. Had hundreds of them, then I won a 22lr bolt action in a Hunter's Safety raffle... no more GI Joe's. Sad day. Stupid destructive child, I was.

Right now, I don't collect much of anything except disability from the VA. Lol. More seriously, though, I don't have room to collect anything else other than paintball stuff. My paintball collection consumes my tiny apartment. It's stupid. I have a problem.

When I grow up (I am 35. Lol), I would like to collect watches and Forever Spin tops.

Watches can be a rabbit hole (especially on the mechanical side) That said lots of neat quirky watches to collect whatever you like without spending a fortune.

I used to have a few Stuhrling automatic watches... glass backs, matching pocket watch and wrist watch. They were stolen from me in the Army... from my band of brothers. Lmao. I had a nice Marathon diving watch that I lost in a pretty nasty break-up with my baby's mother.

Someday I will own a Rolex Deep Blue.

Here's the pocket watch, Marathon Search & Rescue (Gov. NSN model), and the sweet British racer strap/clasp I had on the Marathon I used to have:

The Stuhrlings aren't expensive to replace at this point at all, the Marathon on the other hand depending on model all I can say is ouch!

The Marathon SAR was a gift from my platoon sergeant my 2nd deployment... it costed me nothing. I'm sure it cost the American taxpayers about $1000, though, given that it had an NSN.

You can grab a replacement on Amazon if you're so inclined I know in Canada they run north of $1K but with our dollar I'd imagine it's about $750 USD

I've got a decent amount of Hot Wheels since they started releasing more 80s and 90s JDM stuff.

I started a guitar amp collection, but never got far with it. Currently sitting on a mint condition 5150 that I've never actually played because I haven't owned a speaker cabinet in over a decade.

Video games & consoles. I’m not sure I’d necessarily call myself a “collector” though. I’ve got ~30 consoles & a few hundred games but i mostly only buy what I’m actually interested in playing. That said, i will games/consoles that i don’t otherwise care about if they’re cheap enough.

I'm right in the same boat. I sold off a decent collection some years back, but started again a few years ago when all the JDM goodies started showing up. Now all I hunt for are the tuner cars, Euro, JDM and whatever else catches my interest.

I have a collection of guitar pedals I've accumulated, and a few guitars. I got a few tube amps too (Marshall JCM 2000 DSL, Crate Vintage Club 50). I don't really get rid of musical instruments once I get them.

And real cars too, I guess. Have a 91 Galant VR4 and an 05 WRX wagon.

When I was younger I had a pretty good collection of 1/6 WWII action figures (dolls for men, lol). Mostly DML, which at their height had some pretty awesome stuff if you are a WWII nerd.
Wound up selling it all and don’t collect anything anymore.
