I guess it's normal if you're use to it
Also, I kinda shotgun my coffee instead of sip at it. I Ice it down to drinkable temperatures and guzzle that stuff fast enough to even make Doc proud.
Ain't nobody gots time to sit and drink coffee, down the hatch in one go and back to work.

i never drank coffee until i was in my 30's with 2 kids and a full time job.
i was stuck on hype and made my monthly k-cup selection (provided by job) based on the marketing. Jet Fuel, Extreme Caffeine, Xtra-Bold.... that kind of stuff. but i never really liked the way it tasted. So i started looking into it (and over researching it like i always do) and started the process of figuring out what makes a good cup and what my taste was for, also how to make it taste the way i would enjoy.
a few years later, i know have a burr grinder that i use to grind my own beans and bring to work for my mini french press. The weekends are filled with home ground espresso as a treat. we also have a cold brew pot that makes the cold stuff in minutes rather than hours.

ive tried to o back to k-cups for something quick but they always end up with a hint of a plastic taste...

i say, drink what you like and what you enjoy. if you want more caffeine, take No-Doze caffeine tabs.

Like you, I drank those KCups for years. So convenient, etc.
One day, the machine stopped working... and they aint cheap, so I took it apart to see what was wrong. and the internals were totally caked with slime, and scale, and all sorts of debri and nastiness.

It was disgusting, so I switched back to regular. My wife bought another machine for christmas, but now it all tastes "off".... so I gave it away.

Yeah. I fully expect that's the case. Did you use RO water and occasionally clean it out?

My in-laws gave us a Keurig after they got a Nespresso. We hardly use it, and coffee from our own Nespresso machine is way better. The Nespresso stays far cleaner and is much easier to clean on the rare instance it is required: run de-scaling liquid through it, followed by a couple passes of plain water. Done. No off-tastes, no slime.

yeah, the keurig is quick; ill agree to that.

the french press isnt that impractical at work where there is a water cooler (with a hot water spout) nearby and a sink.

once you get your ratios and time set, youre golden and will have a hard time doing k-cups... lol

for me, i dont like running coffee through paper filters. i fell like you lose a little bit of flavor from the oils that are removed by the paper. (or it could all be in my head)

Deathwish aint half bad, but it aint half good either in my opinion... My choice lately for convenience AND flavor is to cold brew about 3 quarts once a week. Cold brew will keep for a week or two without the flavor going stale. I brew it a little on the concentrated side so that if I want it hot, I just boil some water and make myself a Cafe Americano style drink, but my favorite way to drink it is 8 ounces cold and undiluted with just a splash of heavy cream. Just get yourself a jug with a spigot and a mesh insert, give your bean of choice a coarse grind and boom! Great coffee that you only have to make once a week.
