That is surprising... I had no idea BBC Top Gear still exists.

I guess the car is cool. Doesn't look like many of us would fit in it.

300+ mph in anything is a huge achievement. Truly those speeds are like the vehicle is in another dimension. That’s no joke

Pretty sure the ssc aero beat the bugatti back in the day for speed as well. That company does some amazing stuff.

The bump he hits around 240mph can be lethal... the downforce that car generates must be incredible.

It's a neat machine, but I'd still rather have a Koenigsegg Gemera, honestly. The 2.0L 3cyl TFG Freevalve is truly awesome.

This car can go faster. Look at how quickly it was still accelerating at 331. When cars top out, they don't hit the top speed like that; it takes seemingly forever to hit the last few MPH.

I'm most impressed that the tires held up, honestly. The forces on those... insane, considering they had to be street legal spec. The power, downforce, aero as a whole... it's all incredible.

ha i just saw that yesterday... Top Gear died when Clarkson was booted in one of the most epic ways (from my understanding). Even the Grand Tour wasn't the same and just when it got going, they too disbanded. I would pay money to be able to watch season 2 episode 1 to the end, but i digress.

that was pretty epic to see that car going that fast. This is a really cool time to be observant of hyper-cars. The McLaren F1 was the king when i was younger but i always had a diablo poster on my wall. Now, seeing the crazy tech that out there and what these people are doing is like watching every painter produce a Mona Lisa. Everything is great.

if anyone wants to watch a pretty cool docu' about the cars and their creators, i highly suggest watching "APEX, the story of the hypercar" on netflix.

Yup. Land speed records, like water speed records did long ago, are quickly approaching the risk level where my predominate reaction is:

I hope they can at least start driving these things remotely instead of endangering the driver.

And the list of things I'd rather have than a hypercar is extremely long... I stress enough over my WRX. It gets me to and fro in roughly equivalent fashion (along with like 50 times the cargo space) and it costs less than a wheel on one of those things. Maintenance expenses alone...ugh. I recall reading that an oil change on some misc. hypercar was ~$10k every 1,500 miles. You know what would make me happier with that kind of coin? Driving around in a pimped out RV with some bikes, touring the country, and stopping off at kennels/orphanages/etc and making it rain weeks/months/years of funding.

I think cool cars are fast, but you know what's more practical, is high fuel mileage. How awesome would it be to have a vehicle that can do 50+ mpg?

My TDI would do that before I sold it back to VW. Because they got caught running it dirty.

Vehicles that do 50MPG are a very normal thing, much easier to find than this “production” car. A 2020 Insight does 49/55, the 2000 one did 49/61. A new Prius is 53/58.

They want to commute in massive stupid trucks with nothing in the bed. That way they are real men, and not wimps.

I knew a guy who lived in Iowa with a Mk1 Insight and his record was 89MPG from a single tank. If you live in a state as flat as a table and have the 5 speed version this is possible.

But really most people would rather have a truck so when they see the merge sign they can use it as an excuse to use their V8 to pass on the right and they’ll always be let in because they are massive. This jackass behavior will always be more popular than efficiency.
