Back in ancient times, when we just had Co2, we played year round and when it was too cold to use the guns, we would break out the sling shots.

It was enormous fun with teams armed with just sling shots and a pocket full of paintballs running around in the woods. It slowed down the elimination rate and closed the distance between combatants. Some people took to it well and others just fumbled with loading and firing. It also left a lot of time for furious insults and running around each other.

I had one interaction with an enemy player that I will never forget. We were shooting at each other and missing, so I figured I could get a lot closer as he was missing me as well as I was missing him, so I charged. I got within 20 feet screaming my war cry and he got scared and turned around and started running away with me chasing him. I reached in my pocket and grabbed a handful of paintballs and just whipped them at his back, scoring several hits. He screamed and fell down. It was one of the most satisfying eliminations I ever got.

I enjoyed using sling shots so much that created a mounted loading tube to make loading much easier. I still shoot paintballs with a sling shot to this day, but only for fun at targets in the woods.

Very cool. Have any pictures of the loading system?

Wrist rocket paintball was the first kind I played after a few birthday parties.

If you had a bag of 500 rounds you could have a whole day of play for a whole group

That's what paintball used to be. Cheap as dirt. A mask and slingshot would run you under $50 and then pitch in $5 for paint. Even your first time playing with lunch and gear included you were at like $70 tops. After that your biggest expense was whatever you got for lunch until you and your friends decided to step up and get markers

By the way, i think a slingshot game would be a fun addition to the "junk class" game.

So back in 2008-2009 I got a hold of one and used it a lot. They are a lot of fun to use because you can run like crazy and no one normally hears you shooting it. It's perfect for getting up to the action and silently taking people out.

That said, I once got to the other side of the field (past 50) and was at a fence. A guy with an electric ran up to the other side of the fence and had no idea I was there. My heart was pumping out of my chest knowing he was shooting electric and uncapped ramping. I knew if I got hit it was going to be probably 5+ shots at point blank and no second shot from me if I missed. I quietly reached around the fence and hit him in the leg. He never got a shot off at me. But man it was a rush knowing I got away with it. I have thought about getting another one to use but I'm not nearly as fast as I used to be and I think my Emeks do just fine for limiting my play style these days.

That's crazy to me that they are illegal. The welcoming committee here hands you a rifle when you move to Georgia!

Waaay back in the late 80s and early 90s, with my core group of friends, there were five of us, and only three had guns (1 semi and two pumps). We setup the game with the Semi and two slingshot users versus the two pumps (mind you that there we only had original Viewloader 90 hoppers). All had fun. But, I'm sure the slingshot users were under more pressure than the pump players.

In retrospect, the biggest unknown with slingshots is the FPS.

Update: I bought a $26 slingshot at Cabela's up in ME visiting family. Tested it a little in the backyard with a paper plate on a tree target. While it is doable and the paintballs break. Couple of caveats: 1.any slight offset will send the ball hooking. This includes grip, finger placement on the strap, shaking, and release. 2 it's more exhausting than pulling a trigger and the rest digs into your forearm after a while. Even with the foam pad but it definitely still helps. 3. Similar to archery you need your form perfectly repeatable. If you're form isn't consistent your aim will be off.

I'm definitely gonna practice in the backyard after work and try to improve my skills. Hopefully break it out at Slim's Stocktoberfest if he'll allow it πŸ™

A slingshot will never be competitive or enjoyable to use for multiple games a day, but you'll remember that one elimination for a very long time. Good luck on your quest of wrist rocket proficiency!

You really have to over draw it and aim instinctively. It takes a lil practice. Also pinch in front of the ball not on it. If you squeeze the paintball you won’t get the draw strength you need for effective distance and paint to break. I will bring my wrist rocket to Slims maybe we can play some sling shot games.

I was playing at a big game (800+ players) and was fighting some guys, however a guy kept popping up on my flank and snapping at me. He was ineffective enough that I stayed exposed while fighting the other guys. After a minute or so he hit me in the nuts and I had to go touch up at the respawn. Went right back to the same spot at the vanguard. Same thing, Ineffective fire, ignored him, fought the other guys. he tagged me again. But this time when he came up to snap I realized he was USING A SLING SHOT. Ran back, touched up, came back to where the guys were all massed (that wouldnt fight at the front) unscrewed my barrel, everyone is looking at e wondering what I am doing, dead sprint at the building he is in: he snaps and misses, I jumped THROUGH THE WINDOW and barrel tagged him. We hugged and laughed and I ran back for my gun.
