I’ve yet to hear a single instance of this cheering. Who’s doing it?
Social media is a pretty ugly place. I'll PM screenshots if you really want to know.
I'm almost as disappointed by the equivocation before the blood is even dry. "Well, he was pretty controversial..." Yeah, he's also a human being, a husband, and a father, who hasn't harmed anyone.
I'll try not to be the one who gets this thread locked. Buuuuuuuuuuuuuut....
First off, as a UVU alumn, I was very disappointed to see he was speaking there in the first place. Not surprised, but still disappointed. I saw recently that UVU ranked within the top 10 (EDIT sorry it's 21st) most conservative schools in the country. Utah Valley is a very conservative place in general, and though UVU is less so than others (IE BYU) the student and teacher population was overwhelmingly conservative. Not saying that as a bad thing, just that it is. Point being, visiting UVU makes all the sense in the world. It is very surprising to me that he would be assassinated there, of all places. I'm also really surprised by what part of campus they held the event; other parts were bigger and probably would have been easier to run security. UVU is also a concealed carry school; even before Gov Cox signed a bill allowing it statewide.
I am in no way condoning or advocating for political violence by saying this, but his rhetoric was incredibly hateful so it comes as no surprise that this happened. And frankly, I have a really hard time feeling bad about it. Again, not celebrating or condoning, just... apathetic. I feel bad for his kids, who as I understand it, were at the event.
I hope that this thread doesn't get locked. Our Opinions of him should be discussed and heard, whether good or bad. Now we all can agree that he didn't deserve to get assassinated. Everyone has had thoughts or opinions that are not popular. "Truth emerges from the clash of adverse ideas" John Stewart Mill
I can see two major implications of this.
1: The moderate liberal may start align themselves with the moderate conservatives.
2. Radical conservatives will become a huge problem.
as a moderate conservative, I think its up to conservatives to police the radicals. As a supporter of the Constitution, they are entitled to their opinion, however discussion of killing someone because of this, is out of the question.
I don't know much about the fella and try and avoid politics like the plague which is why this is truly the closest thing to social media I have. I don't post anything anywhere else. That being said any statements other than condemning a sesnless tragedy when a father and a husband was cowardly murdered in front of his family is just wrong. His kids will be scared for life.... They lost their world. Taking shots at his character or so much as implying he had it coming because of his views is just a warped view of the world, if you belive this please seek help. And before anyone takes a shot at my politics I would 100% say this about somebody on the other side. This cowardly act destroyed so many more lives than just this man. I would gladly challenge anyone who says otherwise, hell getting banned from here would probably save me so much $$$... might not be a bad thing
His wife and children have lost a husband and father, and that's a tragedy. I won't celebrate his loss. But if I told you'd I'd be mourning this loss I'd be lying.

One in five actual Israeli citizens are non-Jewish. Did the Hamas cowards ask how many of their own were murdered back in October? Those same cowards who hide behind civilians have sworn genocide, and they're funded by a theocracy who agrees with them. They tore down the facilities in Gaza that were built for them by Israel out of pure spite. No one has clean hands, but the ones calling for genocide are much louder in Gaza and Iran.
I am not responding to this. It’s fundamentally wrong on every regard. For one, Israel is an occupying power under international law. And secondly, there’s a reason why DNA ancestry tests are banned in Israel. It’s all a huge lie. In the most profound and fundamental way possible. But I digress. Unfortunately, too many people are propagandized. The two points I just stated should give you a starting point if you actually want to educate yourself. And I’ll give you a third: it’s called a Let It Happen (LIH) False Flag. Good night
Your still missing my point, I didn't come here to defend his views I honestly don't know what they are. If his name popped up here two days ago and people wanted to discuss his views i wouldnt take 2 seconds to read or join in. I didn't attack or defend Gaza, the left the right the independents... I didn't even mention possible motive or if I thought this was a "professional hit". I have zero interest in discussing any of that. All I am saying is this is not the time or the place for anyone to say "I condem this but ...." his children have no father...... could you imagine someone telling those kids or them having to read somewhere now or 20 years in the future.... "I am so sorry your daddy is dead BUT....." That's it...... I have no interest in discussing the man, I don't know anything about him other than he was murdered by a coward in front of his family......
I gotta side with Swedge. MCB is a unique community with a unique tie holding us together. We all have widely varying politics, and with the state of things these days, I posit that it does none of us any good to air those politics. No one here is going to change anyone elses' mind, and no matter how valid you believe your viewpoint, at the end of an argument, all you're left with is bad feelings on both sides- and that doesn't help the community.
Speaking personally, I come to places like this specifically to get away from politics. I would respectfully vote that the thread be at least locked, if not deleted. This simply isn't the place for it.
He seems like an odd choice of target to me. I'm with a few of you guys and said "Charlie who?" When the news first came out. If he has had that little of an impact, besides being a shock I feel like choosing him as a target is odd.

If you look into some of things he used to talk about, it's not hard to come to terms that he was a polarizing figure.
the UA is is...weird times right now. there's a lot of massive anxiety, and political discourse. I this year alone, we had a presidential candidate with an assignation attempt that basically sealed the election right then and there, we had actual government officials killed not too long ago that were pretty much ignored.
It's not secret that people are being squeezed financially. Heck, I make enough money and and I'm shocked at prices of most things. This like this make populations turn to violence time and time again throughout history. People feel like there's no hope and that's the only thing left they have power over.

Solid insight, the thread holding us all together on this site is one universal truth. Everyone here loves paintball and paintball accessories. Our love for the sport and mutual respect for one another is what's kept this thread going to this point.
I hope we as Americans can find a similar universal truth again because how we've normalized framing political outsiders is sad.
Keep the thread open. Be good to one another, have some empathy.
