    Limited edition

Do limited editions add any value to the gun? Other than custom graphics or colours they are mostly the same.

Yes. I should have been more clear. I was indeed speaking of electros. I total understand classic gun limited editions. Etek,Etha,mini...is what I was wondering.

                Generally no.

But sometimes there are limited edition body styles, or very limited team based anodizing that can command some sort of premium. Like the Dynasty Waffle LV1, or ripper versions. Limited edition on lower end guns like you listed are generally not very limited and not that different.

I think it depends on the seller and buyer - that ODD Ego doesn't mean anything to me, in the January MOTM thread, but to the current owner and potential buyer, it does. It just looks like an Ego with an interesting laser etch design to me.

It's an "in" thing, I think - if someone's in the know, they're understanding what something is potentially worth.

Although... if I could find a chrome Mini, with the case and gloves, I'd be all over it.

Kind of goes for mech stuff, too... I'd be drooling over a BBT Typhoon or Stroker, or a Splat Attack Revenge, but those aren't going to mean anything to the average player today.
And God turned to Gabriel and said: “I shall create a land called Canada of outstanding natural beauty, with majestic mountains soaring with eagles, sparkling lakes abundant with bass and trout, forests full of elk and moose, and rivers stocked with salmon. I shall make the land rich in oil so the inhabitants prosper and call them Canadians, and they shall be praised as the friendliest of all people.”

“But Lord,” asked Gabriel, “Is this not too generous to these Canadians?”

And God replied, “Just wait and see the neighbors I shall inflict upon them."

Yes! I want that chrome mini too! Was just wondering if the seller could justify higher prices with “limited edition”

I think it's up to the buyer to justify paying the price, mostly.

I have always been of the opinion that if words like "prototype" "limited" and "special" are in the name then the manufacturer is trying to generate artificial demand.

coyote; coming from manufacturing myself I would argue that the first 10 or so coming off of a new production line/tooling could be considered prototypes even though they would still be exactly the same as the actual production guns. Anything used for testing is typically a prototype (other than basic QA checks during main runs). If they take their first 10 or so, give them the first serial numbers (or in some cases even no serial number at all) and maybe a custom finish then I wouldn't have an issue with them being called prototypes even though it is also a marketing move hoping to generate a bit more hype. It can be both.

You offer a very valid point .

My issue lies with markers that have only cosmetic differences to actual established product lines. If your offering a body kit that is 3 pieces when the standard is 2, then you get to call the first handful "prototypes". New valve concept? Prototype.

20 CCM S6's with nominally different milling? Not prototypes. Give the gun a different name or a production year designation. S6 21 is fine. This is a fictional example for the now.

We live in a sensationalized click bait world. Paintball marketing follows this culture. In my own subjective opinion a prototype needs a nominal functional difference or a major cosmetic makeover.

Sure I would consider a production "Beta" run unit a prototype but in my experience in manufacturing they also are marked "Not For Sale" and are kept internally within the company and most times destroyed. I even have been given by my current company a few "Beta" units for my involvement in the final push for saleable production but they also come with a letter I had to sign saying I can never sell them and have to return them to my company for disposal if I ever decide to get rid of them. In paintball the "prototype" nomenclature has been [some times] more as a marketing thing the actual development or production prototype.

I picked up a Mini GS LE last March. I had the money for it and I really like the Day of The Dead design. Do I think it's going to be. Hot commodity in 15 years if I keep it complete, along with the numbered certificate? Nope. LOL!ii was originally going to just get the dust green one... But it was a good deal for the one I got!

When there is actually different milling like the dynasty "waffle" LV1 or the twister LV1 these guns will typically hold their value.

If it is a different color typically no one cares except sometimes there is a special buyer that wants just that color, but usually they won't pay a lot of markup for the color.
