    Surfing

Anyone else here surf when they're not spending money on paint?

I'm down in SoCal and probably spend more time in the water than on the field.

I wish. I had just started to surf in NJ in 2005 and then I got divorced and moved to upstate NY. I actually sold my board to Painthappy in 2007. Nice Bic long board.

Still wish I lived closer to the water.

I have always been mesmerized by surfers, love to watch movies and documentaries about surfing. I live nowhere near a beach WITH surf, and am a redhead that ignites in the sunlight.

If you haven't seen it watch "Riding Giants: The History of Big Wave Surfing". Stacy Peralta, of Bones Brigade, directed it. We watch it a couple times a year.

I guess I could find a sand dune, but the ocean's a ways away from me. Never cared much for surfing, as I'd rather cover more water and explore, but I love kayaking- sea, lakes, rivers, whitewater- doesn't matter.

I live about a quarter mile from the beach here in the PNW. I am spoiled.

I started in HI back in 2016. Never did it before and I've lived in CA, FL, and RI. It's a great way to start your day!

Definitely a good thing during the COVID times when my local fields have been shut down.

Unfortunately, I live in a city that is far from the ocean. But when we go to the coast on vacation, I practice boarding. It doesn't work very well, it takes more practice.

I live too far from the ocean to do standard wave surfing but we have couple of spot for river surfing in Montreal (Canada)

I am beginer level but when I have a chance in the summer I like to go for couple of hour with my 8'2" longboard

Here is a video of one of the clasic spot here (not my video, there is 3 main spot around the city in different white water section of the river)

Wow! It's really cool that you can use the boarding opportunity even away from the ocean. Of course, the sensations will be different, because even the smell of the ocean creates a special atmosphere, but this is a good substitute if it is impossible to be near the ocean.
