I’m a huge fan of power metal, which is basically built on the foundations made by Iron Maiden and Helloween. Broadly I would describe this as a “positive” genre of music for many reasons. The songs are long, super technical, lots of solos and keyboards and grand themes like lost cities and failed British airships. Sometimes the theme is just “let’s not play so many video games” or even “let’s not be dicks”. Check out Stratovarious, Gamma Ray, Blind Guardian and of course Maiden and Helloween. Dragonforce also fits in this genre but it’s sort of monotonous and dumb almost to the point of parody...don’t get me wrong, I have all their albums and have seen them live at least twice, but they are a very specific thing, like the Andrew WK of power metal.

Whitesnake...White Lion, White Cross...this isn’t metal, sorry, it’s 80s cock rock and it’s some of the worst music on Earth. I know we’re supposed to all get along here but...that whole genre was basically invented by MTV and the LA rock club scene, it died with them, and good riddance. Same with Warrant, Motley Crue, Bullet Boys, Ratt, Poison, LA Guns, etc. Total crap, sorry!

Inhuman rampage is such a fun album. Even people who don’t really like metal like Dragonforce haha

Devin Townsend explores a lot of different emotions, and he's got a lot of happy metal. Especially on his newest record "Empath." It is prog, through, so it's hard to get into if you're not already into that type of music.

    Happy metal or power/hard rock

Anyone like "happy" metal? Stuff that's not so full of overly-heavy tones of remorse, dread, death, and general... I dunno, un-happiness? Lol. I heard Guilty of Love from Whitesnake on the radio on the way home from work tonight & remembered there was a thread on MCB 2.0 about this topic, so I thought I'd post a new one.

I like a lot of '80s metal/power rock/hard rock. Loud & proud, head-bangin' music. High-flyin' guitars & synth with lot of happy, energetic tones. There's a lot to pick from there. Not sure about anything newer (post-2000), though I do like the Inhuman Rampage album from Dragonforce.

    What do you guys like?
