I love photos and videos taken from a bird's eye view. Unfortunately, not all regions and not all locations can fly a drone. But I bought myself a quadcopter anyway. The decision was made when I read this review https://homemakerguide.com/best-drone-camera/. I bought myself a DJI Mavic Air Quadcopter - it flies smoothly, the connection with the remote control is stable. Of course, it's quite expensive, but it's better than buying a cheap one and losing it in a month or two.

I am actually looking to build my first FPV drone. I can't afford to fly right now and am trying to scratch that itch so I think it'll be neat, plus something to tinker with. I did buy a controller and am gonna put a little time in a sim to get the basics down before I build one. I think I might just try and build a 5" one so it'll be easier to work on, plus I don't like spending a little and then a lot later to get what I really should have got in the first place.

The bigger drones are definitely easier to work on, and generally easier to fly as well. Plus you get the bonus of being able to fit a big enough battery to get some decent flight time.

Yea I might go for a tiny one later and start a little bigger. My radio is supposed to be here today so I'll get that setup up and play around in the sim for a bit before I pick parts. Thinking of building this as a starter.

That is a good solid start, that frame style is tried and tested, and should be durable and stable. If all the components are compatible, you could even start with a 3S battery before going to 6S, for a bit tamer flight characteristics.

I’ve got a Mavic and a smaller Mini. With work I sometimes get drive around the province and will stop (time permitting) and fly the Mavic in the middle of nowhere. It’s pretty fun to do and have some nice footage that I’ve never shared. I should post up some video of it at some point.

The Mini I bought because it’s 5 grams under the general drone laws, meaning it can be used around people etc. Used it very little, but extremely impressed. Indoors the Macic’s wash would make flight a little tricky in hallways, etc but the Mini is that much smaller.

Nowadays I use a Parrot Anafi. Having a properly-gimbaled camera makes a world of difference.

Cool thread, I have a few Drones, RC planes and Helicopters but haven’t flown the choppers in a while. Looking to get back into the hobby as my boys get a lil older. Next time I’m over at my dads I will snap a few pictures of my dusty collection. For now I just mess around with my Drone it’s so simple to fly.

I was recently given a plane my grandpa had built years ago. I've always wanted to fly it, but I took it up to a friend who is very into all kinds of rc stuff and he said that I definitely should not fly it. He said the cement used to hold all the wood together had gone bad and the only thing holding the plane together was the skin. I want to get a new plane when I have some more free time.

That's a great plane but your friend is right, better off as a hanger in the hangar - which is cool to have the history of! Depending on your space and free time there is a great variety of electric ready-to-fly (RTF) planes from $100-$200 that are loads easier than trying to learn on older equipment like your grandpa's 👍
