I just got myself a box of jarts!

I'm trying to add to the games we play for when the boys are over. We have horse shoes, corn hole, and now.... Jarts!

These were oddly difficult to procure. Now that I have them, I'm going to need to bug someone about some .stl files I found online to print some new fins. These are all fine and even come with some extra ones, but might as well toss on some 3d printed ones right from the start. I have a bit of time before summer starts I suppose.

We played with these as kids, but it was my cousin's set, not mine, and always wanted one. Took an extra 40 years, but I now own a set.

Are they the metal tipped variety? These had a short lived life due to injury and I believe fatalities in Canada and the US. If my memory serves it was a few cranial punctures that really did them in.

Yup they recalled them just like the flying tube and other dangerously fun things.

I can print yah some. I don’t have red or blue. I would have to order filament. Probably want something better then PLA anyway.

Yes, original metal tipped variety. So these are banned just about everywhere and it makes it harder to procure than crack cocaine. I figured out the loop hole and snagged a set. People are selling these by selling the "empty original box" on places like ebay, But in the section they say it comes with a "free gift".

I probably got enough ABS in gray to do a set if you want to paint them send me the STL I can see how they print tomorrow morning.

This is what I found online: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5715517

Does that take a different type of plastic? I mean, I'll buy you some reels of filament or whatever is needed. I don't own a printer (probably should but get in over my head when I start reading the specs).

                • PLA (Polylactic Acid)
The undisputed king of beginner and general-purpose printing. Made from renewable resources (like corn starch), low odor, minimal warping, and excellent detail. Great for decorative items, prototypes, and cosplay. Downside: brittle and low heat resistance (softens in a hot car).

                • PETG (Polyethylene Terephthalate Glycol)
The “Goldilocks” material — combines PLA’s ease of printing with much better strength, flexibility, and temperature resistance than PLA. Very popular for functional parts, bottles/containers, mechanical components, and outdoor use (good water/UV resistance). Slightly stringy but very forgiving.

                • ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene)
Classic engineering plastic (think LEGO bricks). Tough, impact-resistant, and can be smoothed with acetone vapor for a glossy finish. Needs good ventilation (fumes) and an enclosed printer to prevent warping. Still widely used for durable parts.

                • ASA (Acrylonitrile Styrene Acrylate)
Basically “outdoor ABS” — same strength/heat resistance as ABS but with dramatically better UV and weather resistance. Excellent choice for garden tools, car parts, signs, and anything exposed to sunlight.

                • TPU / Flexible Filaments
Rubber-like materials (thermoplastic polyurethane). Great for phone cases, gaskets, tires, wearables, and anything that needs to bend/flex. Requires a direct-drive extruder for best results and prints much slower.

Looks like I used all the ABS printing my kids Halloween costume. So I would need to order anything other than PLA. I have Green Gray Orange and Sparkle Gold in PLA. But they won’t be that durable. I think you are going to want TPU just incase they clack together on a throw.

Print file calls for TPU it’s more flexible. As long as I stick to harder filaments 95A HF I should get good results with my P1S.

…why do you want fins printed?

Dam that TPU stuff is expensive. Let me see if I can find an off brand that less money. You wont need the entire spool but buying two colors gets a lil expensive.

I remember I was about 5 and my 7 year old cousin was heaving these up in the air and I’m standing there looking up for them. My parents were freaking. Good times.
As a feral 80s child, I was a better man for it.

It came with the original fins, and I would rather not break those for vintage value sake. I'll slap on some 3d printed ones and break those.

We surprisingly used them as intended. Up until we wanted to see who could throw their the farthest. That was the extent of our abuse.

My dad bought these for my sister and I so we could play unsupervised. Definitely safer but not as cool. Unfortunately I’m pretty sure my sister was actively trying to land these on my head. There were weighted in the tip and kinda do heavy. Maybe I shoulda worn a helmet…
