    The Official MCB Film Thread

I just finished watching Funny Games(1997) and I wanted to talk a bit about it and figured hey I like movies and people like movies why not make a full thread about them moving pictures.

So let's talk, post your recommendations/reviews and let us, your paintball peers, judge or peer pressure you into watching something new.

So like I said above I was talking to a friend about "scary movies" and I told him since The Strangers(2008) I haven't seen a good home invasion style movie, a majority all seem to follow the pattern of The Purge, he recommended this German film titled: Funny Games(1997). He also explained me they did an English remake in 2007. I did a quick Google and seen it was on HBO Max and was excited to get home and watch.

Boyyyy was that flick a ride, I want to watch the remake to see the differences in it, I heard it was fillmed "shot for shot" and there are some things a character does that I want to see how it plays out in the remake. But overall I was left in it one of my top 3 home invasion movies

"The Death of Stalin" - I cannot recommend this film enough. Incredibly entertaining every time. Also, when (not if) you watch it, bear in mind that the historical events played out almost to the letter, as depictyed in the movie. The main difference being they took place over a longer period of time, and the pacing has been adapted for the movie.

"Robot and Frank" - an absolute gem of a movie, that got overlooked the year of its release. Disregard the fact that you might not have heard of it - the movie is brilliant, and one of the better I've seen.

Those two are the two top ones I recommend to friends.

To finish it off, a bonus recommendation - "The Thieves" - in this case the 2012 South Korean heist movie. If you don't know Korean, Mandarin, Cantonese and Japanese, you will need to get it with subtitles. It is totally worth it though, since it is one of the best heist movies ever made, easily surpassing most of the Hollywood ones. If you actually do know the above mentioned languages, I would assume the movie experience would be even greater. In either case - don't miss this movie.

A few months ago I watched "One cut of the dead" and Japanese zombie movie, and it is easily in my top 3 favorite movies, up there with toxic avenger and Monty python and the holy grail. The first 30 minutes of the movie Is very hard to watch but it all comes together into a hilarious, heartfelt masterpiece! I cannot recommend it enough if you like foriegn indie movies! It can be watched on the streaming service shudder, otherwise the only option is a pricey bluray, but I had to buy it on physical after watching!

          Ooh I love recommendation threads!

I love psychological horror and general mind-fuck stuff. Since the weather has been getting nicer I haven't been spending much time in front of the TV, but here are couple that I've seen recently and enjoyed:
          • Annihilation - A move based on the first book in the Southern Reach Trilogy, last I checked it was available on Hulu. It's a story about an unknown phenomena called "The Shimmer" that affects all life within its zone of influence. It's not a perfect movie, but the atmosphere and unsettling nature of the film drew me in and I really enjoyed the experience. It's creepy, but I don't think I would call it horror.
          • Dark - German TV series that has to do with love, loss, violence, sex and time travel. Super mind-fucky, fantastic score, amazing acting. I'm not exaggerating when I say this is one of the best series I have ever seen. It came out around the same time as Stranger Things and they have a slightly similar energy, but I think Dark executes the plot much more effectively.

Oh nice! I totally forgot the new Mortal Kombat came out recently.

Anyone into watching the Oscars? I usually try to catch all the best picture nominations and am finishing up with The Father and Minari tonight.

I've watched a bit of the new MK movie. The special effects are pretty awesome.

Personally I'm really looking forward to Top Gun 2 hopefully theatres will be open when it comes out. I was a year old when Top Gun came out and got the chance to see it in theatres when they did the re release back a few years ago. I've got a killer surround sound system at home but nothing compared to full THX IMAX that was an experience.

As for a recommendation of a movie If anyone likes history (specifically the Nuremburg trials) Nuremburg starring Alec Baldwin is excellent

Click here to watch it on Youtube quality isn't perfect but it's watchable and I will say Alec Baldwin opposite Brian Cox as Herman Goering is a spectacular pairing and they had great chemistry on screen.

OMG, Annihilation, when the Mutant Bear (which had killed Cass), is screaming with her voice....!

I just watched I Still See You, from 2018, great Supernatural/Thriller....

I just caught Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings(2021) this past weekend solid 9/10 for a Marvel origins movie fight scenes were great essentially if Marvel made a kung fu flick, I loved it and can't wait for The Eternals, also finally got around to Captain Marvel(2019), not really my favorite but I see why they chose to make it to support the MCU, I would of been happier had it been a Disney+ series
