    chinoalphawolf streamers tournament

Across multiple accounts, pulling about 20,000 concurrent viewers.

    https://www.twitch.tv/chinoalphawolf

Run partly by HKArmy at their field.

$20,000 prize, no refs, lol they shouldn't be surprised when people cheat.

    Badly produced, very badly organised.

My culture is so far removed from these folks that I can't even describe it. The fights, the language (every third word literally starts with either an N or an F), it's really painful to watch. I don't think I could spend five minutes there without packing up and leaving. It's definitely not the usual tournament paintball demographic, so maybe that's a good thing.

I can't decide if it's good or bad for the sport on balance.

That was a real tournament? I wonder who got the cash.

It's at Combat, a local LA field. I just popped it open and I mean it's pretty much what you'd expect if you let non-industry folks run an event haha. It's a rental/D5 tournament with streamer egos and IRL ones at that.

Probably on balance good, more eyes on it, but the content is pretty boring and trashy at least the little bit I watched. Maybe it was better earlier in the day.

I've always been surprised more LA fields or the PB brands out here dont try to hit this market more though. Or like marketing activations for FPS's or movies. I think COD made a Rust map for MW2 launch wayyyy back in the day but if I was one of these fields I'd try to build some FPS-inspired fields and do some streamer content. A Dust2 or something like that.

Edit: Cops showed up and arrested someone, maybe got swatted?

          Absolute scenes with the cops

I wasn't paying attention but now I am lol

Yeah, paintball industry almost universally sucks at marketing.

They got kicked out, nobody won... I actually feel bad for chino. Getting swatted is never cool. At least it might make the local news...

              Whoa, Lemme get this straight.

Amateurs put on a 20K tournament, no organization, no industry referee, no rules, gets swatted, kicked out of Chino Field.

Sounds like a hell of a tournament.

                Yeah.

You could see the line between what HK provided and what the streamers provided.

HK provided drone views, a base stream, some audio equipment (nothing much), a couple cameras, and the guns/jerseys etc. - also they (eventually) got the internet working via starlink. Only 1.5 hours late.

Chino was probably the one to decide they don't need refs, though there was one ref.

Kid obviously had no idea how hard it would be to organize and I kinda get it - a bunch of narcissistic extraverts will always be like herding cats.

The idea was for this to get exposure for HK and paintball generally primarily through the streams of the people attending, not so much the main HK stream. So HK provided what was basically the BRoll stream, contacts, infrastructure and some sponsorship.

A streamer called Dashae Frost has admitted swatting the rapper DDG, so that'll be fun legally for him. Mostly just clip farming. Dashae is mostly just a shock streamer - controversy and drama sells.

HK will be pissed. Makes them look like amateurs. Which in this instance they basically are.

I'm far too old for all this silliness,

I saw on reddit there was some 20k USD steam so I decided to tune in. As you described it was a lot of N words and stupidity. The players were horrible, and the "announcer" wouldn't shut up.
I've no idea who this was for but it wasn't me. It puts a larger stain on HK more than anything, in the actual paintball world and they're already got a decent target on their back.

Hk take risks. Sometimes they're stupid, sometimes it works

Personally I (mostly) respect them for it. Nobody else in paintball actually bothers with marketing. Whether you agree with their brand positioning , personalities and methods is another matter (they really are not my people), but seriously they're the only ones actually trying to do something.

When you try stuff like this there is always a risk of backfire. Hopefully they learn from it.

As you say, definitely not for my demographic. I didn't know any of the streamers. If they'd had dr disrespect, shroud, asmon etc then I would have at least known some faces.

Well can we put the whole HK are white supremeciats/nazis to bed? I mean, I don’t think many serious people thought that but this event seems like something a WS wouldn’t participate in.

                      sorry stirring the pot.

I don't think anyone seriously thought they were outside of the reddit echo chamber.

                        Maybe I'm wrong.

                        They're just cryptobros.

Chino, the host, has posted his thoughts on twitch:

I generally respect his take. These things are not easy, and he's learned a lot.

                      Tldr

People showed up late, they were supposed to test the internet the day before but the park was closed (huh!?), nobody wanted to stay on their original teams. Games didn't start til 1pm because internet, were supposed to start at 9am. HK sponsored the prizes etc and production. Chinos job was mostly organizing the teams and games. He probably didn't realize how important refs would be. It's the first event he's run.

And then they're in the finals at 630pm (meant to finish at 4) and someone calls the cops.

The remaining teams agreed to split the winnings, but then changed their minds and wanted to keep playing even though the park was closed. Chino couldn't really do anything at that point. Lots of fights.

May or may not be a redo.

                        People making recaps.

Definitely not the usual PB demographic. I'm skipping through most of this, it's tedious.
