Differences between Shocktech and Inception Designs pneus?

I have an autococker that I just purchased that came in with current production Shocktech pneus on it. I also have a set of Inception Designs pneumatics that I'd prefer to use on it instead given the advantages that I've heard the ID pneus have. The most obvious is the easily adjustable ID UFC 3-way but other than that, are there other advantages? Is the ID RAM better than the Shocktech RAM? Is the ID LPR better than the Shocktech FGP LPR?

Thank you all very much for your help and insights on the two.

    Different levels of fanboys?

    Performance wise exactly the same.

Both are short throw 3 ways with three o-rings, both have easily adjustable rams that can be rebuilt, and both lpr's are great.

Me personally I prefer the classic lines of shocktech parts

I feel like ID is the working man's choice for easy to use and great working pneus.

Shocktech works great but is mainly for showing off to your friends.

It's funny cause I feel this is kind of the general perception of the two, but a full set of ID pneus is only $10 cheaper and if you get a full front end kit it's more expensive than ST.

I think it comes down to ease of use. The Inception 3 way adjustment is pretty much perfect in every way and super easy to adjust. The fine threads are a big bonus.

I know that NFG Customs / Nuclear Paintball did a video on the inception designs 3 way and he goes into what was done to make it a better 3 way. ID has a rebuild video on their facebook page and in there they state that the GTR ram has a larger diameter shaft, uses their "special sauce" ram bumpers and has a ram head that has been redesigned and is better than a planet eclipse, Empire, and evolution rams. With that said in neither video do they compare against the shocktech rams or LPRs. As far as LPRs that would likely be left to someone with more knowledge on that subject.

A quick tour and explanation of the improvements to the awesome Inception Designs 3-Way by NFG Customs and Nuclear Paintball. *Note, I realized I messed up w...

Shocktech has a slightly longer throw on the ram.
ID has a slightly lighter return on the ram, which is nice. Also the wrench flats are great on the shaft.
Performance is similar, barb location is different. I like that the ST ram has the swivel barb on the front.

Shocktech 3-way uses proprietary orings; which I dislike. Performance is very good. Looks classic.
ID 3-way uses off the shelf orings, and is easier to adjust; which I like. Performance is very good. Modern look.

          LPR performance is the same.

I carry both brands, and like both brands. I have markers setup with both options. You honestly can't lose with either. Their differences in performance are very minor/personal preference. I generally recommend the ID parts because I like their 3-way for ease of setup.

Would you say that the slightly longer throw of the ST ram or the lighter return of the ID ram helps more with handling brittle paint? If at all?

Theoretically the GTR is better with brittle paint. But it's not like I have done real testing on the matter. Nor have I noticed a real performance difference in a practical way.

I haven't seen one in person but I think the newest run of Bomb 3-ways are coming with a front adjustable rod like the ID rams now.

That's big news. I reached out to the Shocktech team via email just now to inquire. If they are indeed in production I will definitely be purchasing one.

I did see a picture of this, but haven't seen it in production yet.

Across the board, Inception pneumatics are categorically better than Shocktech. The 3-way has a shorter throw, the ram is easier to disassemble and will be gentler on paint, etc etc. That said, it's going to minimal to the point where it won't be noticeable to all but the most discerning cocker snob. It's really going to come down to what's easier to get/cheaper/better looking. Although it is worth noting that ID stuff doesn't ano as well. Specifically, it's made of a different grade of aluminum so the colors will turn out differently.

I really like Inceptions pneumatics they work really good and are super easy to tune and adjust. If I was building a cocker it would be with inceptions pneumatics. I dislike there bolts and valves. But there pneumatics are awesome!

The problem with the ST ram is that the throw is longer than a normal ram and it looks like a basic WGP ram off of a trilogy.

Why is the longer throw on the ram a bad thing when the cocking rod and hammer limit the rearward travel?

You never want the hammer to be limiting rearward travel. That will cause undue wear on the body. The ram should be what limits travel; that's why it has bumpers inside. Lengthening the ram means more rollback, which means more broken paint.

I will say there are advantages to the ST ram over the WGP variant, but it definitely takes a practiced eye to tell the difference visually.
