I have not tried any of them, actually ended up giving away the homemade. I am thinking of trying out the master mine, filling it with water. Just want to try it at the park or open area near me but no sure how loud it is.

Was there any video testing done? I currently have approximately 5-ish tsp...( π€ or was it tbsp)...of Jesus flour(self-rising) applied and ready. Oh well, just wondering how loud they are? Pretty sure, I'm gonna go antique my backyard. I need to check the wind 1st....π

I can confirm that paintball fill is mostly PEG. I worked in a food factory that had -4*F PEG running through flex hosing to these huge mixers to keep them cool. They'd freeze over during use and the water world rot the lines when shutdown. Well, when we'd replace the lines, you'd ALWAYS get splashed in the face, as there was no way to purge the line. It tasted just like a paintball.

I've played with all of these. None of them worked well. I heard that one of the scenario guys took to mounting the Master Mines overhead with some success. I, too, remember the DIY paint recipe using Crayola.
The ones you step on were the funniest failures, though. Guys would step on them, feel it go off entirely under-boot, pause for a second, and then keep walking like nothing happened.

You need to fill the master mine with just flour and set it up, in your house. So, you can "Antique" your unsuspecting wife...She won't mind! π

I have one of those Master mines, we never got it to work successfully. The way the tripwire/piercer works make it pretty unreliable as I recall, about 75% of the time it just didn't go off, or it didn't pierce enough to really throw out the paint.

MCB once again you don't disappoint in providing information. I will take pictures of the home brew types.
Great idea with the crayola paint, forgot about those. And since it is summer I might try filling one with water to set it off see how well they would work.

Played outlaw ball with a group years ago and one guy used to have a few mines he played with. Seemed like a lot of work for a one-time use.
Speaking of questionable safety, there was an airsoft group playing at the field I was at and they used a field entrance along the side of our live paintball game. They walked past the Google on sign, no sh*ts given, even after reminding them our field has liveβ¦. So maybe mines would legal at this field.

I remember the glowstick tripwire mines being sold as surplus in the US Cavalry catalog back in the 90s. I believe the military used them for intrusion detection. They make more sense when you remember that there are specialty glow sticks out there that only glow for something like 5 minutes but are many, many times brighter than normal commercial glowsticks. These things put out light more like signal flares than glowsticks and would attract a lot of attention. Much better idea than using live mines. Allows the defenders an opportunity to identify the intruder before engaging, rather than riddling some lost friendly or civilian with claymore pellets.

Related note: You can buy bottles of undyed paintball fill; it's called Miralax. Yes, the laxative. It's just a bottle of PEG (polyethylene glycol), which is the ingredient that accounts for like >90% of the fill.
If you wanted a ready to use off the shelf liquid paint fill, I would suggest Crayola bathtub fingerpaint. My 3 year old loves this stuff. She can paint all over the tub with it and it washes right off. It's just liquid soap with dye and a little bit of thickener. Very rich, bright colors.Last edited by MrBarraclough; 06-20-2021, 08:38 PM.

How about some "Washable Powder Pre-mix" Venom to go with your Master Mine?....
Here's the best info I've got, on the company, that produced Master Mine.
