Adjustable Tank Reg or Not - That is the Question

I'm an old-school reg fanatic - I've got MacDev, AA, and Centerflag regs, mostly.

However, I think I'd recommend a more modern screw-in reg for you. If you're unaware, Immortal Air is owned by Jon and Dan Colby, who started Air America. They make some fantastic regulators (and have a new high end regulator in development currently) and pair them with excellent, lightweight bottles. Why don't you just give them a call? They can setup a reg for you in any output you like (including 1000+ psi for you Mag guys). While you're at it, you guys can talk about AA regs and all of that fun history.

I like truly adjustable regulators on HPA bottles for Nelsons converted to use HPA. Really like AGD Flatlines, Air America and Center Flag for adjustable regulators. I currently have 2 3K AGD Flatlines waiting to be rebuilt. I have a NOS rebuild kit that is in pretty rough shape that I plan on measuring the o-rings and seals to see about finding non-proprietary replacements.

I was under the impression that 3k Flatlines were completely oring rebuildable.

I don't know the o-ring sizes so I want to measure them, get in some examples from my o-ring supplier and test them out. None of the documents I've found gives size, durometer or material used so I kind of want to document and test what I find so maybe we can keep these alive.

Perhaps you could call/message Tom Kaye and request specs, or even a copy of an original drawing or spec sheet.

Since I have a full kit and another NOS one on the way I can easily measure them for size and figuring out the material and durometer is not too difficult from there. I got the 2nd kit because my o-ring supplier told me yesterday that if I send them the kit they will figure out what they are and give me a parts list.

For the record I messaged AGD and the 3K Flatlines are completely oring rebuildable. Piston oring is 012, seat and on/off is 006, on/off shaft is 010 and the large oring that seals in the body is 020. All orings are 90D urethane.

So is an inline 4500 psi adjustable maxflo rebuildable or just the ones that that had the adjuster below the tank? The Smart Parts Gauge on it goes to 1200, so I assume it isn't one that is low pressure only since I doubt someone went out of their way to find a smart parts replacement gauge and not replacing it with a lower pressure gauge.

I ask because I have a ninja tank now with the terrible cracked Gelcoat but at a really good price, and it didn't come with a reg.

Yeah, if you mean the Gen 3 MaxFlo 4500 adjustable, then yes they should be rebuildable just like the Gen2 MaxFlo’s. Check out this site for really good info on the MaxFlo’s:

They are... except for the reg poppet, no longer available AFAIK.

Ooooooh yeah, good call, forgot about that thing! I guess that was some kind of proprietary seal. Chalk up another reason to go Armageddon.

I have a basic HK reg that is brand new so I guess I will use that till I find a mint Apocalypse or more like Armageddon, but so far all of them have no screw and for the armageddons the aluminum is a bit beat up that is why I would rather have an apocalypse I am pretty sure they are the same internally just steel instead of aluminum. I am going to use it on a remote anyway so weight isn’t a concern.

I mostly used a Raptor Rex back in the day and that is steel too. I really liked Air America’s build quality.
