    Various old magfed vs.

Looking to get into magfed, I'm looking toward some older models. I'm wondering if anyone has experience with the RAP4 T68, MCS Blizzard(not the m98 conversion), RAM 1R and RAM 2R. Just looking to find out any drawbacks or bonuses to each marker. Thanks.

I wasn't aware that the Blizzard was ever anything but a M98 conversion. I have a Blizzard built by MCS (not converted from a previous 98) and it still uses M98 internals. I have several magfed markers and my Blizzard is still my go-to choice. Like the M98 it's based on, it just works.

i don't have any leads on guns you're looking for, but just want to comment you're going to find some pretty sweet deals out there. So many players seem to try magfed, figure out quickly it is not for them, and then proceed to dump basically brand new stuff back onto the used market ! good luck in your search!

If you don't care about FSR the Tippmann TMC is a really solid option on the lower end scale. It's just a 98 with a magwell so it's super reliable and the mags are the least finicky that I've used. I had a MCS Bolt pump that shot FSR and was pretty solid too, I just didn't like the Dmags and Helix mags as much.

The Blizzard is definitely 98C based. I have a Vortex, which is the A5 based model, and I like it a lot. I only only use Helix mags, which are pretty reliable. I haven't gotten to play too much, but I haven't had any issues so far. I have zero experience with FS rounds, but they supposedly require a heavier spring.

Helix mag disassembly is quick and easy. Reloading is weird though. You get this anal bead looking thing to push the follower back, then you can reload paint. I use ten round tubes to reload. Makes it less of a pain. The mags are continuous feed, so no tactical reloads.

Otherwise, it's just a pretty Tippmann. Rugged, reliable, takes all standard parts and upgrades. I will say that the body castings are noticably heavier than the stock. That doesn't matter much since you're removing the hopper, though. It honestly feels even more robust, and I kinda like that. I'm not a huge fan of super light guns though anyway. My main marker is an old stainless automag, with one of Doc's stainless adapters, and the standard stainless classic valve. So...

I have experience with the rap4 t68. My advise, avoid

It's a really really over complicated spyder. It's a stbb with a ton of crap bolted to it, that's all

Here is one to look at

Milsig m17. I just rebuilt one not too long ago and it's pretty cool, basically it's a automag on the inside with a very long and heavy bolt that allows for mechanical full Auto. But there's only like 5 o rings in it and it strips down pretty easy

Valken took over milsig and produced it under their name as well

Check on the magazines though, I think the valken version may use their own mags so they may be easier to get

Since I don't really pay attention to the magfed/milsim world, I had no idea that the M17 was part of the Automag lineage. I'd love to see a museum-type display one day of the Automag and its various descendants. That would have to at least include the Equalizer, the FROG, Armson's weird little blowforward, the FN303, the Proto SLG, and many others. Arguably, all spoolies have some Automag DNA.

Maybe Bacci will put one together one day for his history of paintball roadshow.

The are a few 3D printing companies out there that make different magwells for the M17, as well. So if you don't like the Valken magazines, you can buy a new magwell and use Helix/DMags, or another magwell and use Tippmann mags. Stuff like that. So that's pretty cool.

I have just about every possible mag fed marker. The RAP T68 round ball is not bad and can be found cheap. Paint size can be a feed issue for the round head magazine. The Dmag / Helix T68 468 are fine but tend to be pricey. They do have hopper and mag fed option, as well as air thru stock options. The Tippmann Stormer is the cheapest new in box system that is super reliable, but round ball only. The TMC is also a great starting point, a little more expensive than the Stormer, but have air in stock option. Stormer and TMC can be hopper or mag fed. The Spyder MRX, MR series are nice guns. They are both hopper or mag fed, but single stack 10 round mags only. The up side is they can be found cheap. The DL9 is ok, uses MR mags, but has a plastic barrel and no upgrades available. Tiberius Arms T15 and Scout are great but expensive. The Tiberius Arms T8/9 are pricey and round ball only. T8.1/9.1 are both FS and round ball. Not a good starting point because of price and magazine design. The Tippmann TCR is great, uses TiPX mags, but is now really over priced. Then there are the pistols. The pistols are about the same price as the long guns. The EMF100 and the CAR12 are way too expensive for a starting point. If you are in the Maryland area, you could come to the arsenal and try any of these out.

I'd say avoid early RAP4/milsig stuff because of the Roundhead magazines. They have a collar on top similar in to what's on a qd fitting, and if you bump it during reloading you'll lose some balls.

Milsig M17 I've heard mixed reviews on. They used to be popular near me because the North American distributors were local and would be at all the events.

I've seen TGR2s popping up for cheap lately. No clue how they are. They're stbb, use milsig/newer RAP4 magazines and a bit larger than the normal 'ar' stylings usually seen.

Tippmann TiPX I hear recommended a lot and have good magazines, but are finicky from what I've seen. Ditto on the TCR. The stormer and TMC are 98 based and seem like good options.

I've always found Tiberius stuff to be expensive for what it is, especially on the used market. The mags for the the t8/t9 lack the capacity you'd want in a rifle, and are just plain expensive.

There's the Spyder MR series which can be found cheap. As noted the stock mags are awful, but there is/was an adapter for TiPX magazines.

The RAP4 conversion kits might be good. No idea what the tolerances are like or if they really matter. Pick up a donor Tippmann for cheap and get one of those.

Your cheapest way to start would be trying mfog playing pump/stock class or buying a universal magazine adapter that goes into a standard feedneck. Unfortunately not all mfog allow these.

you could this route. I have 2 setups and they work great in pretty much all feednecks.

Avoid the RAP 4 old products. The 468 is fine... I wasn't very impressed overall.
(Hate to say it) but avoid the Spyder Magfed stuff too. The Magazines are SO expensive for what you get, unless you find a nice used deal.

TMC is a wonderful starting point although it only shoots roundball, which is fine honestly. You really get everything out of the Magfed experience with the TMC. Customization, magazines, and it works.

If you like the TMC the next flavors are the T15 and the MG100. You can go Dye DAM if you want more electronics, I've not used or seen the EMF100 yet but I'm sure it rocks.

If you found that space and time are bending to your will and your secret squirrel ninja sniper ghost warrior is demanding attention look for the SAR12 or CCM option, but only if you are truly a magfed elite.

We call Rap4 "crap4" for a reason. It cheaply made, buggy, the QC is questionable, and customer support stinks out loud.

MCS is Rap4 under a more recent name.

I know at least 3 former employees of that company. They never had anything good to say about the products, or any of the business practices.

Some of their stuff is pretty lackluster, but they do have some good stuff too. I've been very happy with my Blizzard, although the Lok-bolt they created for it is pretty fragile. I run mine without it now. I've also read mixed reviews on their box mag and a few other things as well. I guess the "crap" part would be more accurately called "crapshoot".

                    #12
I guess my own judgement on the matter is true based on what I've heard. I picked up a T68 and Blizzard both fairly cheap. Both have issues. The T68 needed some screws, body parts and a bolt pin. Took care of that and it seems like a fairly solid marker. Came with a few Dmags and the conversion already done: Dmag-well, lok-bolt and anti ball drop. Seems like a solid marker but maintenance could be a royal PIA.

The Blizzard is an MCS build, not a conversion. Rear air, Dmag-well, etc. It is having velocity issues. Took it apart and the rear hammer has scoring on the front edges that I've never seen on a 98 before, and I've owned, repaired, restored several. I figure the hammer isn't up to Tippmann quality, and the drive spring is probably toast. Once I get a new spring going to swap that and put in a hammer from the few I have laying around, but I noticed the MCS hammer is a bit lighter. If this with the heavy spring fixes it, I may look into a zero kick, which I've had working well in my LP RT 98c. Then again I may decide to sell, who knows.

I have dabbled with mag adapters on my phantom, the MAK, and my 98s , the PZ98. just doesn't feel "right" coming from my latent, long ago use of uncle Sam's finest M16.

The Rap4 feels most authentic. The Blizzard I know will be more reliable, with a somewhat less authentic feel. If I stick with it, tbh, I will probably do an X7 Phenom Hurricane build, if the prices on the phenom ever come back to earth lol.

I did pick up a TIPX and really like it, but it is either a dedicated sidearm, or very expensive remote tethered CQB, and I hate remote lines. Plus the one I received which has the remote adapter, which was supposed to be working, drained a 13ci in 20 seconds. But the co2 air feed works fine. Curious. Have to open her up.

                    Thanks for all the info!!

It would be especially nice if Tippmann made a revised Phenom that incorporated a TMC/Stormer magwell.

Or heck, even a TiPX magwell, and make it first strike capable.

Would also be nice if they stopped calling completely different guns the "X-7".

Or you could just buy the Tacamo kit for it.

I honestly love Tippmann. I had a TMC for a minute, and it was great. But I wish they'd get onboard with FS stock. Sure, I could've modified it, but why put the user base through the hassle?
