Scored this on CL for $25. Very clean marker with minimal markings; a few scuff marks on the 45 panels and some rust on the steel fasteners but beyond that it's very clean. It is missing the front pinch bolt but that's a quick replacement at the hardware store. Gassed it up with the 9oz it came with and it sealed and fired fine.

Does the 68 Carbine use a valve that allows for normal velocities on HPA without modification? I know that its successor the Model 98 does, but that its predecessors generally require modification to make them behave properly on HPA. Where does the 68 Carbine fall on that spectrum?
If it is effectivley restricted to CO2 unless the valve is modded, that will depress the value a bit.
Edit: Just checked on a Pro Carbine modernization thread in the Tippmann forum from early August. It would appear that the 68 Carbines may or may not have a CVX valve depending on date of production. If it has one, then it will likely run just fine on CO2 or HPA. If it has the older valve, it might require a valve swap or mod in order to get decent velocities on HPA.
The Automag: Not as clumsy or random as an electro. An elegant marker for a more civilised age.

Not too sure on value. But I believe judging by the hard air line and the earlier hopper design that’s a pre CVX valve Carbine (the 68 carbines had both valves along the way I believe).
Not sure honestly how the early ones did with HPA. I know the CVX valves run great on HPA (same valve design as the 98 and is in all the pro/carbines).
I personally would not sell it for less than $150. Anything less and I’d rather keep as a cool show piece on the wall.

Any good way to tell the valve type without completely tearing it apart? I do assume that it's likely the older valve based on the hardline setup. I did attach an HPA tank to it and it seemed to cycle fine, no noticeable difference or sluggishness compared to CO2.
I'll probably throw it up for sale high and see where it settles. If I played more I'd definitely keep it.

Nice grab on that gun for $25. They're not particularly valuable since there's so many of them and they run forever, but that's probably the best looking example I've ever seen. I'd say Ecap's range is just about right. If you're willing to be stubborn and wait for the right buyer you might squeeze $75 out of it with a little luck.Dulce et decorum est pro comoedia moriComment

FYI the allen key fit in the plastic front grip so you dont lose them
I would have bough it at $65-$75 if I was not in Canada

The hard line pretty much defines the CVX valve. First-gen Carbines came with a braided line, and the valve sealed inside the body. The CVX replaced the braid with the hardline, and only the fitting at the top of the line, sealed to the valve.
And yes, CVX has no issues whatsoever, in my experience, going from CO2 to HPA.
