    AA Vigilante slow recharge

Hey guys, just picked up a Vigilante reg on eBay in very good condition. Opened it up and the pin was bent, cup seal looked decent with round grooves. I straightened the pin out, replaced the piston oring and cleaned and lubed the inside.

I threw it on my pump that has a gauge on it and after a shot the last 100-200 psi of recharge is super slow. A couple shots in a row will make it vent from the barrel until pressure builds again.

The reg doesn’t leak or creep beyond the set psi. Would a new cup seal and pin from Immortal Air fix the slow recharge? They seem to be the only thing suspect in my new purchase. I thought the piston would be the culprit but it’s clean/lubed and slides into the body nicely.

Thought I’d ask first as a pin and cup seal is 25 beans. Thanks!

Air inlet is free and clear?

his there anything that can restrict the airflow -after the reg and before the gauge?

Yes as far as I can tell it is clear. Standard duck bill to reg to the markers air inlet via macro line and 90 degree fittings. I swapped the vigilante out for a different reg keeping everything else the same and didn’t have any recharge issue when shooting. Thanks!

Sounds like time for a full rebuild on the reg

You gotta remember how old those seals are by now. I'd replace everything. Not sure if the Vigilante reg seat is setup the same as it is in the Armageddon and Apocolypse regulators, but with those two if you opened them up to mess with that reg seat then you were supposed to replace that seat always. Both of those regs used a pressure seal on that reg seat, and if you break that seal by fully disassembling them then it could cause performance issues when you reassemble and use them.

What pressure are you running it at? A lot of those older regs, especially with that design, don't work very well at lower pressures.

Thanks guys. Going by memory it’s in the 600- 700 psi range. I replaced the piston oring and the one between the 2 halves with a rebuild kit. The vigilante manual I found online mentioned the piston not being lubricated enough (it is) and the small cone spring (which I can’t find anywhere but appears in good shape) as a reason for shoot down. I’ll have to order the new cup seal/pin combo and see what happens as I think I eliminated everything else. Thanks again!

Just an update if this helps anyone in the future. Replaced the cup seal and pin with new ones from immortal air and they were kind enough to throw in a new cone spring (and a sweet Air America patch). Everything works as it should now. Thanks for your input everyone.

Good to hear you got it going. Automag reg seats can be used on alot of these old regs and are alot cheaper than immortal air.

On another note, on vigilantes (probably some other AA) they were offered with LP and HP springs. LP is 50-450 HP 450-850. If I remember right the red bottom ones were originally sold with LP springs where the all black are HP.
