Removing Set Screw w/ Stripped Threads Above

I need to get a set screw out, but I believe the female threads above it may be stripped as it only unscrews so far and just stops. The screw is also red loctited in (has been broken with heat). The threads bottom out before I'm able to get a tap deep enough to do anything.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You screw it all the way in, and tap the space above it and it still won't get to it? In that case I suppose I would probably drill a hole right to the screw, then take the screw out, finish the hole and retap it, though if it is a grip frame screw rather than a set screw I would helicoil it. Obviously this would mean retapping to a larger thread as well, as adding metal back in is usually more trouble than it is worth.

Sometimes when this happens though, I can avoid that work by just taking a magnifier and looking at the threads to see the damage or object blocking the threads and I can get it out with a pick, though I assume this is a very small setscrew, something that is 4-40 would be really hard to get to, but like barrel threads can sometimes be manipulated with a pick.

I also don't know if this is the best advice, merely how I have handled problems like this in the past.

Got it out. Drilled through it (which was very difficult for some reason. Retapped the threads and it doesn't look the greatest but I think it'll work.
