    WALZ Pistol Help

Hey MCB! I figured now would be a great time for the collective of minds from MCB to help me get a recently purchased Marker back to its prime! It is a WALZ build based on a non-cart Sheridan.

    Here are the issues:
    • The efficiency always left something to be desired. ~25 shots in the 270FPS range as I recall. The RVA seems touchy near this FPS, so a small adjustment results in big swings.
    • 12 grams tend to have a slight leak if you don't tighten the changer down hard. This leads to large openings in the 12 gram, and is possibly contributing to the lackluster efficiency.

I'm curious if an aftermarket 12 Gram piercer would solve my issues. Comparing the 12 Gram from my Phantom or even Mini Buzzard the hole is at least 2x as large. Almost 4x as large compared to my Palmers marker. It was recommended in the post I purchased it from to switch to a shoot-to-peirce? Would that be a route to go down?

I love the feel of the marker and am astonished by the quality of WALZ work. Once you see a WALZ in person it blows your mind.

here is the marker is question from it's original sale post

For the 12 gram issue, you can do 2 things. 1. Get a new face seal. That'll help, but it may still need to get cranked down to seal honestly, thats a lot of pressure. 2. Take a little off of the pierce pin. The pierce pin is hammering the 12ie every shot. So if you take a bit off and re sharpen it, it'll pierce less. If you can het it to just barely poke the 12ie, that alone may do it.

Also, WALZ usually opens the air transfer ports in the valve, and body. From what I understand this isnt necessarily good for co2 efficiency either, it helps sheridans work on hpa as well as co2, but I think it hinders efficiency a smidge. So an unmodified valve may be in order to help.

Lastly, I thought sheridans in general are known for being less than efficient. I read old articles on efficiency tests talking about sheridans struggling to hit the 30 shot count on 12ies, vs a nelson easily shooting 30+ shots. I wanna say it was in the rambling of the PPS blogs.

So 25 shots isnt terrible from what I know. You may only squeeze 3 to 5 more shots out of a 12ie at best.

This is exactly what I was looking for!

I think route #2 will likely fix the issue.

Efficiency isn't the biggest concern I am more worried about the marker having a slow leak due to the 12 gram being pierced a bit too much.

I tried a new face seal (CCI brand) which was already recently replaced in the previous post. I was just wondering if I should try looking for a different brand/buena.

I think you are spot on with your analysis and I thank you for your time kind sir!

      Much welcome man.

An idea to help determine how much to knock your pin down... after you remove the pin, simply rest it in the puncture hole from a 12 gram that that was pierced by that gun. That'll give you an idea as to how deep it was buried. Then work from there. You could honestly just re sharpen it and that would take enough meat off.

Found the article I was thinking of. Its title is essentially explaining why a typhoon is superior to a stroker, but it talks sheridan efficiency. Seems like it was written by glen himself.

Basically talks about sheridans getting 15 shots a 12ie unless reworked. They they could get up to 25.

I found it to be an 8nteresting read.
Let me put it this way. If I could have gotten the performance that I wanted from the standard Sheridan valve system and the way it is arranged inside the gun, I would not have needed to make a new gun at all. Keep in mind that a Stroker is little more than a SHERIDAN/PMI standard pistol that we install our automatio

Great little read. At this point i suppose I just be thankful it is at 25 shots. Thanks again!
