    .004 or .008 larger bore?

I don't really need a full on barrel kit, but a couple bore options would be nice. I have a .684 UL back to cover most needs, but I am trying to decide if .688 (.004 bigger) is enough of a difference for overboring on days where the field paint is rough, or if .692 (.008 bigger) would yield better results - or is that too much?

In my experience over the last year and some, paint sizing has been all over the place. I generally use a .689 and am just done with it. If the paint is REALLY rough or really small I will change barrel/insert in response. For the most part I would rather greatly overbore at cost of efficiency before dealing with barrel breaks.

Since I first got a sizing kit, I don't think I have ever seen paint needing a .688 bore, let alone .692

That said I have not seen reasonably round paint very often lately either, which pretty well makes barrel sizing moot

At which point I tend to agree with punkncat, if you've got a good detent system then overbore and spare yourself the breaks

Also is this for pump or semi/open bolt? If for semi that .688 should be more than fine, I run a .686 UL and don't get any breaks though I still have my .692 from years ago that rarely sees any use now.. for that pump stuff, I'm running .681-.684 and generally a little underbore if it's a low pressure marker.

Pump, actually. I have anti rollout fingers to use. Even with pump, underboring crap paint isn't always great so I am ok losing some efficiency for straighter flying ballz

Oooh I mean.. I use a .689 boomstick on a stick feed autococker that gets epic rollouts, HOWEVER I use a the tape mods to hold the ball in place and it's the Straightest shooter I have, AND no breaks ever. But I Also use a .681 Lapco on another stick feed cocker that holds all the paint fine and shoots everything Amazingly with no breaks.. lol.. either way works :P

My cocker pump with a .688 back-ed J&J and a dummy detents will shoot ANYTHING reasonably well.

I never use bore higher than a .687
If you want to go higher buy a one piece 690 barrel they are better one piece and already cheap to buy (I have around 10 of those and I never use them...)

I never use anything over .684 I don’t even bring anything larger then that to to the field anymore. But I guess it depends on you local paint Supplier. I wouldn’t go much bigger paint is getting smaller if anything.

The last time I played I was getting a snug fit with .685 which was amazing. A couple roll throughs, but it was field paint. Still a surprise, last year when I was out I was sizing smaller.
