Burst Macroline Question but also maybe Apocalypse output pressure question.

Question first- Could I have built the Apocalypse reg in such a way that let the full pressure of the tank through the output line, causing the macro to take WAY more pressure than it was designed for? Or is it more likely that the macro just gave out after a couple decades of being pressurized to 800 or 1200 psi?

    The Story
I rebuilt an Apocalypse reg including a(forgot the name of the chunky ring that goes between the two halves) that I got from Immortal and hooked it up to my mag. I think it was setup for output of 800 to 1k psi output but it has been a long time since this happened and I don't remember why I thought that.

The macro line burst when I flipped the gas on and gave me a good bruise.

My plan was to put on a new line, set the output pressure almost all the way down, and leave the air to the gun on as I air up the tank. I figure this gives me a chance to see if the output pressure stops where it is supposed to or keeps climbing.

Then (gestures vaguely everywhere) and I haven't been out to the field since this happened.

While I don't know the appocolipse off the top of my head, as long as it's not a huge departure from standard reg designs it's always possible to do something to basically output tank pressure.

Here's what I would do, go through it again just to make sure nothing obvious is out of place, take off your macro fitting and put a tank gauge on the output then slowly air it up and see

While anything is possible, I'm having a hard time imagining how assembling a regulator with that design can be assembled in a manner that would allow something approaching tank pressure through. It's far more likely that it's shit macroline, or line not rated for that pressure.

I don't think I've seen macro rated for 1k, to be honest.
And God turned to Gabriel and said: “I shall create a land called Canada of outstanding natural beauty, with majestic mountains soaring with eagles, sparkling lakes abundant with bass and trout, forests full of elk and moose, and rivers stocked with salmon. I shall make the land rich in oil so the inhabitants prosper and call them Canadians, and they shall be praised as the friendliest of all people.”

“But Lord,” asked Gabriel, “Is this not too generous to these Canadians?”

And God replied, “Just wait and see the neighbors I shall inflict upon them."

Yeah, seems like automag users regularly abuse the ratings for air parts.

Unless your safety valve, the blow "offs"? "outs"? Whatever the hell they are called...were messed with, they will go before they allow tank pressure to come back through the bonnet.

Highest rating I can find for semi-flexible Plastic Tubing is 900psi in 1/4" OD most are listed as 550psi. Note the Bend Radius most of the Macroline out there is bent to a much tighter bend then that. If we go for "flexible" the highest pressure rating I can find is
ID OD Wall Bend Max. Pressure Max. Vacuum Color
              Inch Thick. Radius
              0.15" 1/4" 0.05" 1 3/4" 900 psi @ 72° F 28 in. of Hg @ 72° F Black
              0.19" 1/4" 0.03" 2 1/2" 550 psi @ 72° F 28 in. of Hg @ 72° F Black
If we go for "flexible" the highest pressure rating I can find is:
ID OD Wall Bend Max. Pressure Max. Vacuum
              Inch Thick. Radius
              1/8" 1/4" 1/16" 1/2" 260 psi @ 72° F 28 in. of Hg @ 72° F
Historically paintball has been using plastic tubing outside its normal operating ranges, so when someone reports they had a blow out I am far from surprised. Hardline or Braided line is the way to go IMHO.

This does not mean there aren't speciality tubing out there that work for our pressure ranges just that I expect most of the tubing sold to paintballers are not truly rated for our use. Macroline <=/=> Macroline

Now that is an excellent point that didn't register for me before. I suppose it couldn't have sent more than 1.8k through the system.

I think even for the “heavy duty” stuff, 950 psi is your max or burst pressure. Working pressure is probably sub-500. Then factor in bend, temp, etc.
