    First AutoMag

    I tinkered around briefly with someone's Mag the last time I was at the field and now I kind of want one but have absolutely no idea where to begin. The little I know is that there are about 15 million different upgrades available, which doesn't help the situation. I'd like to keep the form factor as close to a more modern marker as I can- vertical feed, longer spacing between grip & foregrip if possible, standard ASA mount- but past that sky is the theoretical limit. Well that and budget. Not in a hurry to buy, just trying to get in some research and figure out where to begin.

    A ULE body will give you vertical feed and Autococker threads, but run about 120 and up, even used. A Doc's barrel adapter will give you 'Cocker threads on a stainless body for 40 bucks. An X-valve with a high input pressure yields light weight and a high rate of fire, but you're looking at 250 and up for the valve. I'd start with a 150 dollar complete Classic, Doc adapter, foregrip extender (there's some out there), and a 12v Revvy. A Level 10 bolt will eliminate chops, but I personally don't use one on a classic valve, because I haven't needed it. Between the ULE body and the X-valve, the Classic loses about 3 pounds, but they get spendy.

      Will they run on a 400-500 PSI tank? I don't currently have anything setup for more than that.

        You dont need a lvl 10 to prevent chops. Keep it simple and get a classic valve, lvl 7 and a different bolt is another way to go about it. Have fun and go wild with just customizing It cosmetically and make it your own.

          The conventional wisdom is that mags like high pressure. I would run a high pressure bottle straight to the valve (no foregrip regulator). X-valves and RT valves really rip if you get an adjustable bottle reg that can put out 1000+ psi.

          That being said, I don't know for sure if you'll actually have issues with 400-500psi. Try it & find out? Can't really hurt it by doing so.

          As for modern "upgrades", I concur with the above. A ULE body & X-Valve are where it's at, but they're pricey. The ULE body is more important of the two IMO. The Classic & Minimag valves are plenty good, as is the LV7 bolt. LV10 bolt is nice, but they require tweaking. So I agree with MrKittyCatMeowFace on this. I'd keep it simple & use it for a bit first & determine what you really want for it.

            About a year and a half ago I was in the same spot you are. Scored an absolute steal on a x valve minimag and basically went about replacing everything except the x valve

            That said here's what I ended up with



            I do think the prices above are a little high. Here is where I would value the stuff on mine

            X-valve (come with lvl 10 bolt) $200 used
            Intelliframe -100 used
            ULE body -$100 used
            Luke's armada 9.1 rail with Anno $90ish new
            Trigger $35 new, luke's
            Vertical ASA RTpro $35 new (luke's)
            Cp shorty forgrip (like $50 used, rare and expensive)
            Cp asa and drop, $60ish

            So like $650ish when is all said and done.... Expect I'm not done.... Because it's an amazing platform and I absolutely love it

            I've heard mixed things on running them on lower pressure, just aim for high pressure and you can make life much easier

              Here are a few good starting points for you


              $175 for the marker, I'd skip on the barrel

              But it's a classic center feed body that's cocker threads. The only real down side is it doesn't have a threaded feedneck

              ULE mag with a ptp frame. I don't know much about the frame but being a double trigger is a good starting point.

                No, it won't. Not remotely reliably anyways. The classic and RT/X-valve can cycle as low as 600-650, but the ideal starting point is 800-850psi tank pressure. If you have an old adjustable reg or Ninja SHP, you can really make the RT/X-valve sing with higher input pressure, but it's not necessary.

                If you want a mag with the ergonomics of a modern marker, be prepared to spend the money unless you get lucky and stumble on a good deal. It's faaaar cheaper and easier to get an old powerfeed mag going.

                  As already mentionned you can start with a classic automag for $150 to $200 and upgrade some of the component or buy all the parta separately (superman have a pile of misc parts)

                  Front grip:
                  - front grip extension to use with a classic rail ($25)
                  - longer rail like Luke's or other (all depend your budget but around $100)

                  Body:
                  - ULE vert feed body ($100 - $125)
                  - vert feed body ($60 Superman have 1 I think) and Doc adaptor for cocker thread ($40 new from doc)

                  ULE or tac one body are really nice and are lighter option

                        As for bodies, really cones down to your budget and what you want. If you are looking for a agd body, BSTs are probably the best. Private lable bodies, there are a handful of new ones out there still including luke's. If you can afford it I say start with a ULE body because any rail that works with a ULE chances are will also work with any aftermarket body as well.

                          much of the read up on mags on MCB is gone, AO is mostly dead but huge amounts of required reading. Also Tuna has Emag valves that’s a nice between of a classic and X valve

                            Yeah AO helped me out a lot. They still have a decent amount of traffic. If anything I think it's picking up with mechanical markers coming back into play
