Value and thoughts on a Luxe Ice

Howdy folks. I have an opportunity to buy a luxe ice galaxy splash edition and was curious what’s a fair used price to pay for it...? Not sure what the used market value is on it and whether to snag her up or not. Don’t have a ton of experience with the newer space guns. Was told it’s got an upgraded bolt and is the nicer model (whatever that means) my guess is that’s it’s the 2.0? Any insight would be appreciated as well as thoughts on this marker itself (good reliable gun, or better to put the money elsewhere or on the luxe X if you’re to buy a luxe, etc...)

    cheers mates

I love how the Luxe feel and shoot. They are far from reliable. My ICE did not like cold weather and got super finicky in the cold.

I don’t think the X is much better honestly. This weekend I seen 2 just start shredding paint it wasn’t even that cold maybe mid 50s. If you live in a climate ware you don’t have to worry about the cold I say go for it. They shoot great! Definitely the smoothest quietest markers. They have a nice long feel for running and gunning and feel real natural to shoot. One of my favorite shooting markers. The reliability in the cold is what made me sell mine and go Planet Eclipse.

Not really sure on the market value I don’t follow them much, but the electro market drops like a rock. So see what others are selling for and try and get it under that.

Thanks for all the info man... this is exactly what I’m wondering and I do live in a colder climate. Trying to figure out where to invest my money in regards to a new space gun considering I’m coming off a 15 year paintball coma and was a strictly Autococker player prior so my knowledge gap is severe to today’s markers so I’m playing catch up. What would you say would be a good deal on a used price to pay where if I had to dump it if I didn’t like it, I could break even at least

The ICE is the best Luxe in my opinion. The X seems to really be hit or miss and the later production models seems to be better than earlier ones.
The ICE's bolt is more similar to the older model Luxes or a Vanquish/SFT Shocker but it uses a spring to help compensate for bolt stick. Additionally the ICE coating helps a little. If you maintain them well and do not over lubricate they can shoot well in the cold but the risk of shootdown/FSDO still persists. Additionally, they suffer from poor air efficiency compared to many other modern electros or a sweet spotted cocker. Sweet guns but they most definitely have their quirks.

Shoot, this is getting tough. Are there other guns you’d toss out there deserving more consideration in the same price range than the luxe ice or is that hands down the choice and not much thinking required? I guess I’ve been looking at the empire axe pros and such.

also, anyone got an idea of value or what I should or shouldn’t pay? Or could quickly resell at to break even if I end up not liking it (this would help me with what I offer)

thanks for the input fellas, keep it coming!

It's tough to tell anyone what to get because so much of it is personal preference. As far as modern spool valves are concerned, my personal favorite would be the Geo IV which is the newest and only current gun they sell with the IV Core. All the Planet guns that utilize the Gamma Core are great shooters but tend to have snappier shot than any Luxe before the X. Another good option might be a Dye DSR with the updated (Flex) parts. They are a little smaller than a Luxe but it's probably the best Dye gun ever made.

I loved my first Gen luxe. I used an EF rod basically a piece of plastic rod that filed a section of the engine. It increased the efficiently a lot by bumping the pressure way up. But it helped get it to shoot in the cold decent. I also mixed the grease with oil and fitted each and every Oring so they fit just right.

EF rod probably wasn’t the best thing for it but it did work well. I used it like that for 3 seasons until our sponsorship changed and I had to shoot something else.

I did not like my ICE it shot nice but gave me to many issues I feel like the Luxe in general are hit or miss. Maybe it’s just operator error. But they are definitely not a set it and forget it marker. My teammate swears by his X but it’s an old pro marker so who knows what’s done to it.

PBN is a pretty good place to see what electro are selling for. eBay prices are all over the place I don’t trust them. Book Face is also terrible for values the “what’s it worth” posts are always inflated or deflated by people looking to flip.

That ICE looks like it’s got a nice ano most of the luxe do. But if it’s clean and you can buy it right you should have no problem unloading it if you find it’s not for you.

Thanks for the insight Ducky.... if I end up snagging it, I’ll have to pick your brain more on that mod. Is there a little less finicky of a marker you’d recommend in the similar category as the Luxe or are they all finicky in their own way when dealing with the new space guns?

also, haven’t had any luck finding a price and checked the places you suggested... I guess from your experience, what would you pay (price or price range) I guess and feel like you got a decent enough deal for that specific ice with that many shots on the counter?

Im a big fan of Planet Eclipse. The 170R, Gtek,LV and CS are fantastic markers. But you got to find what works for you.

I currently shoot a CSR I won in a raffle. I shot one of the 170R last weekend and it shoots and handles really nice for the money.

If I was to buy a new marker I would probably get a LV1.5

If you want a zero drama electro definitely go with a PE marker, anything Gamma core should be low drama. Never owned an LV but I hear their simple and reliable as well.

Just remember..... New luxe soon so older talky shocker resale is going to plummet.
