Opinions on the Kingman Hammer 7?

So the Hammer 7 has recently caught my eye and seeing as I favor Nelson style pumps I am highly considering picking one up. Has anyone here had experience with one? If so, what are the pros and cons? Are there any known issues with them?
If I do pick one up, the first thing I'll probably do is send it to BMC Fabrication for the cocker threading.

The detents are wonky, when i had an H7 I had issues with double feeding a lot. Keep fresh/spare detents on hand.

I really liked mine as well. It was a nice “cheap” marker to shoot shaped projectiles.

I had big plans for it, but I came to the realization that none of my friends played with first strikes (and there were limited fields we could play).

Mine was pretty finicky once the velocity got up around 280, not sure if that was just MY marker or if it’s a common hammer 7 thing.

I also had a lot of frustration the first time I took it to the field as I was “over cocking” and getting blow by (?). I ended up learning that the guide rod can be adjusted to prevent that ( should have read the manual) After I got it tuned in it was great. Tons of fun to play with.

I do regret selling mine, but I’ll probably pick up another.

I'll have to agree with the other two posts here. Velocity for me was very finniky, as well as the guide rod issue, as well as the detents and barrel.

The guide rod can be fixed by either adjusting it (which makes the pump handle feel looser), or by screwing the rod all the way in and putting a stack of washers or coins in the pump handle.

The front anti roll out detent can go pretty quickly because the ball is being fired from behind it (ball sits in the barrel adapter, so bore sizing is pointless). Also if you accidentally turn the breach the wrong way when switching from mag to hopper feed, it will cut the anti double feed detent, ruining it.

It's also difficult to use other barrels, because unless it's the same od as stock, it will allow the pump handle to wiggle quite a bit. This can sort of be fixed by wrapping tape around the barrel, but it looks kind of bad and isn't a 100% fix.

This gun's claim to fame was it's price tag when it was going out of production and could be had for cheap so people could bubba them into rifle stocks and not feel bad. Strictly as a pump, a trracer or maverick has a far better fit and finish than this. They've been selling for stupid high prices too, so you could probably get a brand new phantom for around the same money. As a magfed gun these suck because the magazines are way too expensive for what they are, and are definitely the worst mags on the market.

When they were $60 new they were worth it. Now not so much. The mods they have for them are cool but it’s probably one of the worst versions of the Nelson design. Cup seals leak, pump handle travels to far purges the valve on a fast or hard pump causing double feeds. Bolt design causes terrible efficiency, it also nips the detents after a few uses. It will eat detents every other outing. It also needs like 950+ Input pressure to hit field speed on HPA.

Lots of mods and work arounds but it takes a lot of work to get them to shoot ok.

I ran an Air Rifle tank reg that put out 1K pressure, modified mine for dye mags with dmag springs, penny JB welded in the pump handle, and I filled the bottom half of the bolt with JB weld so it sealed on the breach and found a spider threaded UL that worked decent after you removed material on the pump handle to clear the barrel. Oh and I put a bottom line on mine so I could sight down the marker with a mask on.

Spider they actually became hard to find for a while due to the hammer eating them so bad. I think someone is making them again. There are different versions that are a lot stiffer now. I don’t know how well those hold up. You will know if you got the right ones if it last more then a few days of play.

It's basically a dual feed phantom that can shoot fs

They make really good snipers and your can even do things like make them lever action

The down sides are minor in comparison. The hard part these days is finding one and finding mags

My only problem has been horrible issues with rounds flipping 90° during feeding and having to be flipped back by hand; we're taking multiple times per mag. However I've read on here that either shaving the little plastic remainder on the tip of the round, or just taking off a little material in the magwell to let it clear, can fix that.

But as others have said the real strength of the H7 was its low entry cost for an FSR platform. (I got mine for $40 here a few years ago.) At Phantom prices there are probably better options out there

I have most of the Dye dam Magwell mod “how to” that was on the old MCB. I use to modify them for people locally when they were cheap.

I think It was ghostflanker or Afroman that posted it before MCB got 2020’d. It’s on my old PC I can dig it up if you need it. There are no mod printed lowers now as well. Lever action kits spring feeds that feed top or bottom. Lots of aftermarket crap for them. It was the go to platform for modifying due to its low cost at the time. Nobody wanted them because they didn’t work out of the box. People would buy them and mod them to various degrees of home brew mag fed setups. Back then mag fed was new and options were garbage. Now off the shelf stuff is pretty decent all the way down to the low end.

I wouldn’t buy a Hammer 7 unless you are looking to tinker and a project. In the end your going to spend a decent amount of money and time getting it to shoot like markers you can get today out of the box.

overpriced. everyone wants one now to make a custom build out of them since they fit in stocks so well. only a year ago they were $60 regularly in the magfed facebook group. now they are $200, stock, with no mags, and no barrel.
id rather just build ION based rifles instead. parts are cheaper. if you want fsr though you have to mill or dremel the feed port. which, for the price trade off, is a way better option. and you get a "modern" firing solution and bolt system rather than the nelson. and you can hook it to a solenoid and control it via a micro computer, such as the Adafruit M0, and get all your fancy firing modes. and you are still under $60- plenty of wiggle room to mess up a couple breeches before you get to the cost of a hammer.

I really enjoy mine. I bought it not too much under retail with the intentions of modding. I converted it to a shotgun and put all the parts from the lower in the box for the day that I'll play magfed. (Highly unlikely...)
