    Vintage Patch Collection

I was staying at a family friend's place last weekend and he was telling me paintball stories from back in the day. He played in the early tournament days back in the late 80s and early 90s for a team out of Wichita, KS. I asked if he still had any of his old gear and if I could see it. So glad I asked...The coolest stuff IMO were the patches. I would imagine there aren't many of these early tournament patches floating around our there and his are all in mint condition. He had some cool early JT stuff as well, as they were one of their sponsors. I asked him if I could take pictures of the patches and post them because I thought a lot of people would enjoy seeing them and it is some great paintball history. He also had several photo albums full of pictures from the old tournaments and fields and photos with dudes like Bob Long and Dave Youngblood. Don't be afraid to talk to the older guys. If I hadn't asked, I wouldn't have gotten to see any of it. I'm new to this site so I posted a link for the photos. There are too many to include in one post.

I really miss patches and patch "jackets". They gave you a good reason to approach someone and strike up a conversation. In the past I can not recount the number of times random players came up to talk to me (new and old) because of the patches on my Judging Vest and there were times I in turn introduced myself to someone else because of a unique patch or a patch for an event we had in common. Over the years I have passed on a lot of my patches but I still have a crap load.

If you got into sport late, players just don’t understand how big a deal the patch vest was.

          I still got mine
