How is that field? I like to go play at different fields and one day I want to go to Atlanta and play.

Not in Georgia, but not far away.

        Huntsville, AL
IF I play, it's usually backyard ball. Or a scenario game somewhere within a 1 day drive.

Any scenario games in the Atlanta area coming up?

I like it as it's very recreation focused and they really focus on making new players comfortable (helpful for me as I reacclimate). Always a ton of people (like 50 per game) and pretty good refs (make sure teams are evenly split and that they evenly divide electrics with rentals). They have decent woods field, and a big combo hyperball + mounds field they use as well as a smaller field if there are less people. I take my 12 year old son and the refs always watch out for him which I appreciate.

But if you're looking for tournament practice or speedball I think most people go to Classic.

I don't play much any more, but I hold down the parking lot and talk smack like a pro down at Dan's Land Paintball in Jackson many weekends of cooler weather.

Hey punkncat , every field needs at least one of those guys! :P

The mounds hyperball field sounds cool shadow191. Might have to check that out. I don't play speedball as much as I used to so that sounds good. I am more interested in a field that is busy.

^ I will mention that where Paintball Atlanta has an AMAZING facility and really good turnout, they were IMO far higher than it's competition, specifically saying places like Classic and Nitro.

I would say that by reputation and specifically in reference to speedball style play, I think Nitro is THE place to go. Even more so if you are into the tourney scene. Classic has been known to be a very busy place and have heard really good stories coming out of there as of late. This has not always been the case in recent-ish history.

Not sure pricing at other places but Paintball Atlanta is $10 field fee w/ all day air and $65 per case (sometime $50 for whatever reason). Seems reasonable to me but have seen reviews saying they were expensive. Based on pricing on websites for other places it feels in line.

I'm amazed to see places like Wildfire charge $8 per 100 for paint. Granted it's indoors but that's the same price I paid back in the '90s before paint got cheap.

They must have changed pricing policy or something. The last time I played there was $125 for FF/HPA and a case of rec grade paint. No one other than "team affiliation" could get the good paint they had on hand. It was a tremendous facility though and lots of players.

It changed ownership maybe 6-7 years back. It's currently owned I believe by Lane Wright who was involved in PSP and NPPL back in the day. Super nice guy and really tries to make paintball more accessible to new players and less intimidating. He was complaining to me last weekend about guys who just show up to boost their ego by beating on the first timers. They do a good job of not stacking the teams and won't let "tournament" players (and I used that word loosely) play together and use birthday parties as practice. I've even seen them throw refs in there to even out the teams.

I think they're one of or the busiest field in Atlanta. They average ~150 people on a Saturday and ~100 on Sunday.

What is it about Classic you don't like? I've never played there but have considered it as it's not that far from me. I've been going to Paintball Atlanta a lot and think it's great but was thinking about checking out another place. Was going to try Nitro but guess that's out.

The field had developed a reputation for not only stacking teams but for severe referee uninvolvement on the field. I haven't been there in some years, personally...but they had a big cube field with a central flag. They would bark some rehearsed speech, set a timer for 45 minutes and set stacked teams loose on that layout while the refs themselves hung out at the entry gate (if there) and talked completely ignoring the field. In between games you often had to hire a private investigator to FIND the referee to get another game going.

I have talked to a few people who have played there within the last 6-8 months and my understanding is that the situation is much better. I do not know in what aspect. I would honestly suspect that they may not have enough regular attendees to stack sides anymore, but that is just mean spirited conjecture on my part based on past experience.
