    Kimberlin Mountain Designs Emek Grips

Well if you haven’t heard by now, the Emek is the hot to trot darling of the mech world right about nowish. With such booming popularity we’re now also seeing something that used to happen back in the day, 3rd party “custom” or aftermarket parts/bits/bobs and such are being produced. I, like many here, do enjoy having a more unique marker, and for me that is an itch this modern work horse it starting to scratch with the assistance of Kimberlin Mountain Designs and their made-to-order Emek grips.

The KMD grips do a fine job in replicating the original factory grips in form and function, including being made of both hard frame trim and soft rubber over molded grips. The grips aren’t complicated overall, but the Emek grips are screw-less, and do require some precise tabs to be present to ensure these things stay on, and keep essential pins in place. I was most concerned, prior to receiving my grips, about how the rear push button clip retention would be handled. This was simply replaced by solid soft mold material as a friction fit piece, and is solid. I recently played a 4 man tourney with these installed without issue, so I am satisfied.

As mentioned on the website as these are made-to-order, you should expect some small imperfections in the molding. Two very small air bubble gaps are present in mine, but do not effect function. Color is uniform and crisp while having a nice translucent glow to it. I’ll have to wait and see how it holds up against staining over time, but currently the lime green I asked for is spot on what I expected.

For the price, there currently isn’t any thing else in the market, and even if there were it is a great deal for made-to-order “custom” color grips to spice up that black plastic spooly you’re dragging around the field. Go grab a set and get that feeling you used to have when adding stickies on your new marker and then calling it “custom”.

Really interesting I wonder what the process is. If they can do this for 35 bucks perhaps they can do rubber grips for other guns where good grips are not quite easy to find, especially rubber ones.

These are perfect for a build I am working on, but of course as soon as I saw this and went to order, they are on vacation! I will report back once I can order and have them in hand.

Definitely curious how they’ll show wear over time. As long as they’re grippy though I’d have no complaints.
