I wanted to briefly review the MCS Emek conversion kit. The product is $120 and includes the upper and lower components to convert an Emek to magfed. It requires that you have a complete Emek because you have to switch the internals over to the new components.

I had an Emek with a Hair45 V1 valve in it. I also had a Pops installed. Otherwise, it was a pretty stock Emek. I started my removing the bolt from the Emek. I was able to just swap it over to the MCS upper. I then put the detents from my Emek in the MCS and put the eye cover they provided and screwed it on. The upper was complete.

The lower is where most of the effort comes in. I had to remove the internals from the Emek. I removed the grips, the pops, the air pipe, valve, trigger, pin, and top cap that holds the spring in along with the 4 screws that held it in. I then transferred them all over to the MCS frame. The only issue I had was that the valve pin didn't want to go all the way in. I ended up using a drill bit and opened it up a little to make it work. That might be a one off issue, but worth mentioning. Once that was resolved and everything was moved over, I had the mag release and spring that comes with the MCS kit to put in. I was able to get that installed and then I attached the completed lower to the completed upper. I aired it up and it was working.

If the valve pin had worked the first time it all would have taken me 20-30 minutes to do it. Given the issue I spent closer to an hour working on it. But I had never put one together so it was all new. I could probably do one now in 10-15 minutes if there were no pin issues. I also put a grip cover over my Emek back grip and that took some time to remove.
I took it out to the field and used it all day long. The first impression is how small and light it feels. It feels so light and with no hopper, it is almost pistol like. I used my Nano barrel but I plan to use the short stock Emek barrel some next time I play. It should make it play very much like a pistol. The gun chrono'd about the same as the Emek body had. I did adjust it down a little and it ran all day without any issues. I used CF20 mags and other than a mag issue I had with bad paint, it loaded and ran perfect all day. I also used the MCS box mag. It ran fine with that too. The only issue (and it's a known one) is that the box mag is extremely hard to get back off. I have ordered an Inception Venom mag release which also fixed this issue on my EMF100. I was able to get it back out after some effort. Like I said, it's a known issue with the box mag. But once it's on, it runs great and gives you 200 rounds (non-FS) to run with and electronically fed. Changing mags was easy but I did have to put the mags in a little more forcefully than I do on the EMF. Maybe that will break in and get better over time. I felt like towards the end of the day I didn't have to slam them in as hard. But a lot of my mags are also new, so maybe they are the issue.

I would say if you have an Emek and want a cheap way to get into magfed, the MCS kit is the way to go. You won't want to switch them back and forth at the field, but they can be reverted if you only play magfed occasionally. I had an Emek that I bring to lend out so I converted that one. I still have my main Emek and use it often. So for me getting it to convert a secondary Emek was a no brainer. If I want to lend it out I could put the box mag on it and then no pods or mags would be needed to let a newer player try it out.
For the money I highly recommend this kit if you have wanted to play magfed but weren't committed to it full time or only want it for an event or two a year. Since it can shoot First strike rounds, it also might be a good way to get into that on the cheap.
