    30 acres of woods

My uncle is obtaining 30 acres from his in laws and wants to play on a small section during the summer. Maybe 10 people max, with them all being family. The property is kind of set up for it already with trails and things like an old boat and some appliances out there.

For those who have been doing this a while using HPA, how many scuba tanks would be sufficient? I have 2 right now, and we would be playing hopper ball so I think that would be good but I am willing/considering getting a third to be safe.

If you are going to have ~10 players on a semi-regular basis I would say a third scuba is a good idea. I had a scuba for my own tinkering purposes for a while and I was surprised how quickly it drains. You could also consider having a couple 12g setups for backup in case you run dry faster than anticipated.

Consider doing a "cascade" to stretch the fills.
Fill with your emptiest tank first (e.g. 1000 psi), then the bottle will be 1/3 full so when you go to the next one (2000 psi) you only use half as much to add another 1000 psi, then your fullest scuba (e.g. 4000 psi) is only using 1/3 as much air to get to a 3000psi fill (since the tank is already at 2000). This will let you get good, 3000 psi fills for 3x longer (at least).

This will use up your emptier tanks faster, but let your fullest tank stay full longer so you can "top off" to higher pressures.

ANS gear always has $25 48/3k steelies. I have a bunch of these and a cheap Chinese compressor. The compressor fills slow so I have the tanks ready to go for play day and I encourage people to bring full tanks if possible. I will say if you play hopper ball with non regular players I think a pair of scubas will get you through a day if you start with everything full.

Depending on what guns people are using, 1 co2 tank will get you a lot further for much cheaper than multiple scubas.

            What they said ☝️

A lot will depend on what people are shooting and how much. Phantoms v Tippmann v space guns will need very different setups for air. When I do a “casual pump play” at my place, I don’t think anyone has run through 15/45 even with a full day of playing. So most people just bring a full tank and leave with a “less full tank”, or run 12-ies

That said, if you guys plan to run mech, it’d probably be good to keep some scubas ot spare tanks on hand.

One way to help curb the air use is to run smaller hoppers (50rounders) or limit paint in general. I realize that is NOT what you asked for, but is a solid solution for outlaw ball. You can have all the air in the world, but if you run out of paint at noon, you’re done either way. Limiting paint, slows everyone down and limits air usage.

            Just my $0.02

            Now…for the important part….I’m only about 2.5 hours from Syracuse…just sayin’ 😉

Hutbrew A spyder and a couple of tippmans. Mainly emeks though and I'll be shooting a sniper that I am currently building. I figured if I have the scubas, might as well use them. May wind up with a siphon tank for some though.

Yeah, I’ve played at backyard fields with scubas and they run out so fast…
One backyard field I go to uses 2, 4500psi cascade tanks (not in tandem/ untethered) and those gave a group of 20 playing speedball more than enough air (tanks were still filling to 2500+ at EoD)
