Using a pneumatic piston ... To activate the valve ...

    Hello MCB,

    ----------------------------------
PSA: for all cocker purist who feel like a cocker is a sacred platform, I advised you to turn around now before your blood boil and your head explode ...
    ----------------------------------

    ...

    ... Last chance ...

    ... Still here? OK ...

I've been looking at older electronic gun (impulse and alike ...) And got thinking ... (I know, it's not too common 😅)

Has anyone taken the hammer/spring/ivg assembly out and replaced it with a pneumatic piston.
The piston would open the valve in forward position.

    This mean: no shear!

The bolt could still be linked to the piston, this would make it a open bolt ... But there is some open bolt cocker out there, so that's not too too wired ...
But the trigger would be supper short and soft, all it would do is activate the control valve for the piston.

    Any thoughts?
Too wired ... Even for Velcor?

    Thanks for looking,

It was a kit back in the day, I have one in a bin somewhere. PGI FireStorm

PGI Firestorm Autococker kit - YouTube

There was also the ACI Sonic, and the Tippmann eBolt all playing with that same idea. I think the PGI and ACI Sonic are by the same person, along with other weird stuff like the Mayhem and Assault80.

      MQ valve but pnuematic... hrm....

Sort of brings it into Intimidator/Ego/Promaster territory... but using mech instead of a board...

I dig it, if you could ever get it timed right.

I think I have a vague memory of a thread on the old forum about this. I want to say that the consensus was that velocity would be or was really inconsistent? That's no reason to not try it though, seems like the kind of mad creation that happens around here.

I didn't realized the PGI kit was piston driven ...
I always wanted to put my hand on one ...

Timing/velocity would be an issue, the dwell would work better/easier to control with electronic control for sure ...

I'm trying to put my hand on some impulse to try a few "wired" things ... I may have to return to cocker afterwards ...

I actually had to look up the griffin kit, really interesting ... And exactly what I was thinking, bin on a spider ...

Dam ... Now I feel the need to track down a PGI gun ...

For timing, I was thinking a stiff short spring on the valve stem might work at keeping the ram from keeping the valve open too long ...

The Sonic has mechanical dwell, believe it or not. There is no board, the trigger is wired directly to the noid. I'm trying to make time to do a video on it, it is an interesting device. The trigger may as well have just been connected to a on/off valve, the timing is handled by the pneumatics. It is finicky, to say the least. Sticky o-rings directly affects dwell, and actually delay before a trigger pull creates a shot.

Dwell is an issue only if you have an open line to the air supply. If your modding mod it all the way. Add dual oring sail to the back of the valve that shuts off the incoming air from going into the valve. Kinda like a (actually almost exactly like) an 09 impulse valve do something like that and you can leave the valve activated as long as you want once the pressure is vented the cycle is complete.

Have you seen the Odyssey 03e? Its a F.A.S.O.R. that uses a cocker style body. And I believe the PGI Osiris is closed bolt but uses a ram on the bottom tube to open the valve

I'm not sure I get what you mean, I couldn't find layout of the 09imp ...

The FASOR is pretty much what I had in mind ...
I was thinking 2 way pneumatic with a 3 way control valve, but it would work the same as the FASOR.

Has anyone made a mech FASOR valve?

I'm thinking a pneumatic ram with an adjustable exhaust port on the front and a 5 way valve for trigger.
                Would work like this:
                - gun resting, the ram is pressurized open - press the trigger (actuate the 3 way):
                - the valve trip, actuating the pistoon forward.
                - the air exiting the piston goes through an adjustable bleed valve. This would regulate the opening speed of the piston and hopefully the velocity?
. - hopefully the valve spring + air pressure could close against the piston? I may need a way to help with this ...
                - release the trigger and pressurize the piston close

The other idea I have is to have a hole on the front of the piston to vent the pressure in forward position. But then I would need to have a way to reset the piston.

Anyone know the force needed to open a cocker valve at velocity?
