    "window" on the lower tube?

    Hi MCB,

I've seen a few cocker with "window" on the lower tube, and trying to decide if I should go ahead and drill my cocker build ...
Is there any problem with making a few of them, other than debris getting in?

Does anyone have dimensions/spec. for how big the opening can be?
Or pictures of a working model?

    Basically any help/advise/sample are appreciated
    thanks in advance,
    X

I've never owned a cocker with windows in the bottom tube, or modified one to have them, but to my knowledge there are no problems with doing so, other than what you mentioned (debris).

As far as size is concerned, it really depends on the orientation of your opening. I think a vertical slot could cause problems unless they're pretty narrow, since theoretically the hammer could rotate a bit and get caught on the opening. Horizontal slots would be much more forgiving.

Kind of thinking out loud here, I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will comment. But I think that, as long as the window doesn't exceed 1/2 of the diameter of the tube in height, you should be fine.

Lots of OG Spyders have horizontal slots in the lower tube...

I'll be the contrarian: If you're actually going to play with this gun, why would would want those slots? Even if I don't get hit on the marker, all of my guns require a complete wipe down after each day of play. My Cockers might need to have the lower tube parts pulled out every 50k rounds or so with the grease I use. Having a cavity milled out of the sides would make that a more frequent chore, and I'd ask "for what?" Looks? It doesn't look particularly nice, in my opinion.

Yeah, I think it looks cool but I agree it's an all show, no go kind of mod. Plenty of downsides, and the only real upside is you get to see the hammer bounce around.

Y'all make a good point ... I'm gonna bail on the window in this build ...
im trying to get as compact and light as possible, but the weight difference isn't gonna be worth the drama.

On the good side, the air through frame is done ✅
