    Open class to stock class conversion...

    Is anyone out there converting open class bodies to stock class?

    I’m on the fence about picking up a LH feed open class body I found, but I don’t really want it unless I can have it converted to SC....well I want it either way, but I can’t justify completely frivolous spending unless I can convert it.....well...I can’t justify it either way, but I peaked my curiosity.

    It’s pretty much just removing the feedneck and threading the body for a set screw right? I reckon just about any machinist could do that fairly easily

      I did a very feed chop, and I didn’t like the outcome. It left jagged edges and a bigger hole than a stock class body. I wouldn’t do it again honestly.

        I would be afraid of doing this. It would be one thing with a direct feed or even a RH that pops up “regularly”, but I don’t have the heart to maime a unicorn....I’d have to hire it out.

      Depending on how nice you want your marker to look, you could do a homebrew stock feed out of copper or pvc pipeand slap a Phantom feed gate on the back end of it

        Worth noting that ASP has been teasing me about making a run of left and right feed offset SC Roundhead bodies. They didn't make it into the most current run, but there's been a lot of interest and I'm currently bouncing between pestering ASP and EV about it.

        Can it be done? Sure. If you've got the cash, I guess.

        Cutting off the existing feedneck properly, ensuring that there are no burrs or jagged edges, then drilling and tapping a screw hole for the required SS insert (which you will need to purchase separately) in the EXACT location is not going to be some simple job. The fact that the new hole cut will be larger than the hole on a standard SC breech is another big consideration. Given the margin for error on something like this, I'd never opt to do it myself or even risk giving it to a machinist. After the machining work is done, then there is the cost of re-anodizing the breech if you wanted to take it that far. You'll also need to buy a SC feed block and set screw to attach it with as well, so even more expense there. The cost of a conversion like this is going to add up fast.

        If you're going to pester anyone about this, I wouldn't bother Michael at ASP. This would be something to ask about from the new owners at Phantomonline. Though I'm not sure how much good pestering anyone to manufacture a left handed offset breech will do either. It comes down to supply and demand and the demand just isn't there. Obviously, fabricating a limited run of anything will cost you top dollar, and that's only IF you can find someone to do it. Now, if CCI were still in business... (sigh).

          Based on the bit "walk around knowledge" I have about this stuff (which isn't much), I wouldn't expect it to be cheap by any means. Most of the points you brought up were my concerns (but you did point out even more I didn't think of), this would never be something I would attempt to do myself....just checking to see if it was possible or there is a machine shop out there that this is "common practice" . This was much more of a "hypothetical", but something always in the back of my mind if the opportunity ever arises.

          Long ago I came to terms with my left handed-ness. Everything I buy from a sports standpoint is more expensive....from baseball gloves to golf clubs to firearms. If I want something left handed, I pay much more for it, or I have to wait until a lefty version goes on clearance because it's 4 model years old. Its just "one-of-those-things"

          Kinda like how all lefties figure out where they are sitting at a table as they approach it based on the people they are with. That way they cause the least amount of discomfort and elbow bumping since they eat "backwards" compared to everyone else.....the struggle is real!!

          Thanks again for the input, you definitely brought up more points then I originally took into consideration...Looks like I'll probably just have to bide my time and always keep an eye open for one.

        I keep two of these feed adapters in my paintball bag for 1" and one for 7/8" necks so I can adapt any of my open class or semi-autos to stock feed when needed. The work fine.

            These have oring friction fits,
            I think they work well with direct feed phantoms to avoid using an elbow plus a stick feed. Fits wgp RF also.

          I have done several feed neck removal on phantom and various Nelsons ...

          For phantom:
          The ones I did had the feedneck threaded into the body, then spot welded ...
          at the time, I had a very limited shop and no idea how to do it ... I would do it a bit different today
          if you plan on putting a feed back on: cut the weld and unscrew the feedneck. Clean the body and feedneck on the lathe. Ano how you want (or not, this is personal preference). And voila! Stock feed conversion.
          This will have a big hole, and the thread edge will show ...
          (I just did this to my bushmaster and love it, might post a picture of the job)
          If you have no intention of converting it back: I would cut the feedneck close to the body. Once it's rough cut, put it in the lathe and finish the cut flush to the body with the remnant of the thread in the body. Drill the body at the right spot for the feed. You can ano it as you want, but the threads remnant may not take.
          This allows you to have a smaller, clean hole for the paint, but ano may not bee clean near the opening.

          The cleanest way is to get a new body and ano it to the desired color, which may not be always possible ...

            still can not use tank if has setup for tank remember 12grams only no tank or hopper
