Benefit To A Reg?

On my Phantom, I have it set up with the vertical adapter, and the bottom-line ASA.

Plan is to run a lever-changer through the bottom-line, or a small 13 CI tank.

Is there a benefit to running a reg in the vertical adapter? Will it prevent the need to adjust velocity when swapping between 12 grams and HPA?

Or does the cost not really justify the small gain?

I like to run a pass-through reg on my stock class gun in the warmer months. I don't notice a difference performance wise, but it helps with velocity spikes and temperature fluctuations. Due to the nature of CO2 vs. HPA you may still need to do some velocity adjusting, but it shouldn't be major.

You don’t need one unless you play in very extreme weather conditions. Like 100+* weather. I just stay my ass at home when it’s that hot and sit by the pool.

It don’t hurt anything. Just adds more stuff to the equation.

I don’t run one and have never felt I needed to. I have a marker that came with one it shoots the same with it as it dose with out it.

I use an inline one on my stock builds. I play at lower temps. Summer days can start at 50 degrees. When rapidly rock and cocking, I've noted the ability of a bit of liquid making it to the valve in both VSC and rear charger setups. This usually only happens in the first ten shots of a powerlet. Velocity spikes, not a huge amount, but I do break more paint and see wild trajectories when it happens. The overall average gain in shot count is really only about 2 shots per bulb.

My most useful Phantom build used a Palmers Sideline Reg and I loved it. It allowed me to take the variability of CO2 out of the equation while setting up the valve and hammer spring rates. I shot for a compromise between pump feel and efficiency and was able to get 30ish usable shots from a single CO2 cartridge which worked out great since I used a 15rd stock class feed tube. I wish I never got rid of that one since it also had a Dual guide Punisher Under-cocking kit on it that with some polishing and minor adjustments had a great stroke. Regs are not needed and none of the 5 I have now use one but I do miss that Sideline setup.

The cost doesn't justify the small gain, but if you have money and want to be extra, get the reg. I have regs on two of my phantoms that I bought directly from CCI when Mike was still there. It doesn't shoot any better than the one unregged Phantom I have, but it sure feels good to be extra.

The benefit is adjustability.

The reality is the Phantom I have in my "rotation" has never been regulated. I live in the San Francisco bay area. Weather simply is not an issue here.

So CCI made an inline reg. It was designed for the CCI Revolution that used lower operating pressure. Some added them to there phantom builds. I purchased this one with a matching reg and it’s really just wide open at its higher side of its adjustment range. It will help with spikes in higher temperatures or if the marker sits in the sun with a 12g in it. That’s about it most of the time when shooting its going to be on the lower side just acting as a pass threw. CCI regs are not super easy to adjust. They are more of a set it and forget it. As for performance it will very based on style, temp, and speed at which you shoot. I get the same consistency and shots to a 12g out of a regulated Phantom as I do unregulated.

Tuning for low pressure will make the phantom a lil more quiet at the same time hurts efficiency. Valve need to stay open longer to get velocity with lower pressure so you take a small hit on efficiency. Its just not worth it. Phantom is perfect just the way it is performance wise. Nothing you do will change performance dramatically that you will see in real world play.

Also in CT your never going to have a situation ware you need that reg. Lots of us in the North East play all year round and never have issues. With HPA a tank reg is more then sufficient for a phantom.

With 12g/Co2/HPA@800-825psi tank out put, stock sliver springs, clean, lightly oiled marker and it will perform perfectly every time for you. Don’t complicate it the Phantom is beautifully simple and rock solid reliable. Just shoot the hell out of it they only get better the more you use them. Play style and good paint will do more for efficiency then any tuning you could possibly do. (Keep It Simple) feel like spending money send your body out to ASP for a detent mod.

Thanks, I found it as New Old Stock sitting on a shelf in NC still listed at the original Phantom prices before they went up. Red and black are my favorite colors. It was meant to be. They even had a matching phantom threaded Dye UL that’s on it. The stock I got from a member here but matches very well.

Thanks all for the replies. I'm not looking to just spend money, just figured i had a spot for a reg, and wasn't sure if it was worth it to add one or just bypass.

ASP detent mod is on the list, but anodizing the grip frame is first.

As I said before in previous threads, this is my first Phantom and still learning what works and what doesn't. I've seen people run them and some dont, but didnt know why or if the juice was worth the squeeze.
