    Unibody Phantom Thread

Just bought a unibody phantom with a shorter barrel. Never knew there was different lengths and now im curious.

Guessing this is the 12" tournament body
also heard tell of a 8" 'shadow'
    and a 14" 'express'

Googles in and old threads from mcb come up that are gone now.

anyone know anything about the different unibody models? Anyone shoot them?

i may be interested in an 8" if anyones getting rid of one.

Nice find, there's probably not many of those floating around with a left feed body in a red ano.

This I picked up around 1990 when I was starting out. It has gone through some changes obviously but still works. I would say this is the express ? I’ve never heard that title but it’s cool. It never sees the field because I have 6 others newer Phantoms that are setup nicely. Roll outs are a pain with these Uni bodies but you can have detents put into them or lay some tape inside the breech. Enjoy that old school paint slinger it’s a cool one.

You can also use what you have there and put all those parts and internals into another Breech with a threaded barrel option. Bored one day at home I put this together with the Uni body disassembled and some spare parts

The one i just purchased comes with the ASP Detent mod. Curious to see how that works. Not new to phantoms but new to these unibodies. Were most right feed?

would be great to see some old catalouge photos if anyone has them kicking around, or just general historical anecdotes about early phantoms.

The ASP mod is great, really allows for the old big-bore unibodies to hold their own in a world of diminishing paint sizes. Most of the unibody Phantoms I have seen are RF. Hell, most OC Phantoms in general are RF.

Here's what I have. The three page article has some interesting tidbits...and some hilarious typos. I'm still trying to figure out what the "Stainless steel degassing pin" is.

By the way, your left feed tournament unibody with spiral tip porting is quite unique. Good catch! I almost went after it myself.

Thanks Mechstar this is exactly what i was hoping to find, any exactly the kind of history we need to re-compile on the new MCB. Im intrigued by the 5.5 inch prototype phantom. So cool.

Yeah, I would love to know where that prototype went also.
Looks like yours is a Shadow length wise, but I doubt they did any Left feed.
Maybe it was a cut down Tournament, then spiral ported and re anodized. The aluminum is not bare in the porting holes, so it was anodized after porting. I don’t think Mike did any spiral porting himself...but I could wrong on all counts.
All I know is you have a cool Phantom. In my opinion, Unibodies look best with undercockers, so you can appreciate the sexy lines!

I bought a shadow a few years ago only to find out the from screw hole was beyond stripped.... Like stripped helicoiled and stripped again.

Ended up junking it and putting a left feed tournament body I had on it.

Did you happen to get the body to Bacci? My unibody had its front screw hole absolutely destroyed. I found a frame longer than the regular Phantom frame and drilled a new spot for it.

My hand engraved All-American drilled Express. I received the empty body in a lot, sent it to ASP for detents, then rebuilt it with modern parts. Currently waiting on an L stock with tank rings from Doc.

Damn i like that colour. Great looking marker.

Looks like the porting was done after anodizing so the left feed and red anno are stock, i think.
