    Raven Nexion Pickup

So I managed to score a Raven Nexion it pretty good shape locally for $35. I’d post pics but it’s currently in pieces pending a rebuild. It’s complete though. I’ll post a bit of of review or something here when I get it up and running. Now onto the ask...

Does anyone have a pdf of the manual (not the parts diagram)? I am specifically after the LCD modes/functions/menus. If one doesn’t exist, does anyone have a manual for the Flash or AMG LCD board functions?

Its also been several years since I owned an E-spyder. Do you charge them with the switch on or off? I don’t get any kind of charging indication either way.

Nice find. And for a great price! One of my favorite body styles.

Iv'e a classic AMG manual but no LCD manual.

E frames should charge with the switch off.

I've got an AMG LCD. The manual is in my storage locker. I should be able to dig it out tomorrow. Maybe I can find a digital one before then.

Updated with a pic fresh off a rebuild! Minor ano fade in some spots from dried paint, corrosion on the clapper noid, and some minor dings, but overall its in pretty darn good shape.

I realized that the body is heavily inspired by rippers, or the cobra angels (thinking more so the cobras). I like the milling a lot. In my opinion, this is probably the nicest milled stock spyder available.

        Interesting facts:
        - Grip panels are aluminum
        - Grip frame appears to be milled - no signs of casting (seams or finish)
        - The top tube has a rear plug... that is threaded into the body. So the quick strip pin is completely pointless if you keep the top plug installed.
        - Its a model made before catalytic converters so it will run good on regular gas.
        - Feedneck is clamping! Just a pinch bolt, but I'm easy to please.

If I can get the board manual that would be nice. But it's not needed. Its only two function buttons. Everything seems to work; except the battery. It airs up, holds air, and cycles properly for 1 or 2 shots before the battery throws in the towel. Including the battery that came with the gun, I have 2 JAVA batteries and a powerex. The powerex seems to be slightly better than the JAVA batts, but its I think its toast to. 3 shots per battery ain't gonna cut it. Guess I can't be called out for shooting too fast though, lol.

Anyone have a delrin bolt recommendation that they know will work with the older top cocking guns like this?

Cool on the update. I spaced out last night when I got home from working/working out I didn't go in my locker to check. If your batteries are still good, it might be the capacitor. Easy fix for 5 minutes of work. (as long as you've got the cap on hand.) Promise I'll look when I go home in the next half hr.

No need to rush. I don’t think it’s a cap. It doesn’t look swollen at all. I will get a shot or two out of it before the board shuts down. I’ve never had a board with a bad cap that I remember. But I doubt the LCD display would fade out and go blank if the cap was bad. Plus I’m trying to use batteries that are at least 5 years old (the Java’s are definitely much older) and haven’t been charged in years.

Definitely not the capacitor. I replaced it just because I had a couple of spares. Same issue. Just for the heck of it, I used my multimeter to check the output voltages of a bunch of 9v’s and the 3 rechargeable I have. The rechargables are between 11.25 and 12.6v (odd). The good 9v’s are at 8.8-8.9v.
So I threw in the best 9v just because.
It functioned properly and I was able to give it a little rip, check the velocity, etc.

          Well it’s definitely batteries, lol.

Any recommendations? Has anyone tried the tenergy/GI sports valor 9.6v batteries in an e-spyder?

            Very Cool

Is the trigger frame aluminum? or pot metal? Or worse... Plastic!

these are pretty neat. The Raven lineup was pretty cool but very short. (2 models)
the Raven Primal gets all the attention but the Nexon was also one of the most feature filled old school markers kingman made.

              crazy drop forward
              hard metal line
              bearing detent
              clamping feed neck
              external velocity adjustment
              quick release pin
              top cocking
              mini reg in asa
              volumizer
              electronic trigger
              high pressure gauge
and some really cool milling. (would be nice to see this body in a different anno')

So I ordered the GI sports Valor 9.6v 2 pack and charger and a top cocking supafly bolt from ANS. $25 for 2 batteries and a dual batt charger is a decent deal. Let’s hope they are true 9.6v...

I have Powerex 9.6v rechargeable battery for my Spyders, works great. It's a higher capacity than the Spyder Battery so it has a little extra weight, but also lasts longer.

If the stock bolt operates smoothly you won't really see an improvement with the Supafly.

Ya I have a powerex battery too but it’s also toast. The GI ones are made by Tenergy, so hopefully they are a little longer lasting.

I never really notice much performance difference in any spyder bolts, but I don’t normally tune my stuff to the max. I wanted a mostly delrin bolt to reduce the internal wear that is more likely to occur with the full aluminum stock bolt.

Quick update: the Valor charger and batteries came in. They seem to work fine in the Raven. I have had the old java and powered batteries on the charger to see if they can be revived. I keep forgetting to check though. Overnight wasn’t long enough and it’s not on like 2 or 3 weeks.

Also I don’t know if I will use the shocktech bolt. The cocking pin hole is slightly off centered so the pin will run on the cockin knob slot.... not the only shocktech part I have that looks off-center. I have an old cocker phat hammer with the lug countersink offset. However that is merely cosmetic. Oh well.
