    MechDev Clone - mech conversion

Got this MacDev Clone in a bundle couple of years ago and this poor gun was in pieces, missing the board and no idea on solenoid condition.

With the wave of mech conversion I decided I should try it.

After analysing the animation, I wad able to confirm it was a good candidate. When the bolt move foward, a slide ring move to block the inlet of the dump chamber.
I also checked the operating pressure to see if it was bellow the rating of the clippard pneumatic I wanted to use.

Since I did not wanted to directly drill and tap the body, I had a manifold built by Kit in a trade deal. This manifold bolt at the same place as the solenoid with no modification.

As most MCBer, I have many piles of project gun and I will usually fix gun to sell rather than finish some project. There come a second trade deal, now with Jordan. I have seen many of his project over the years and always admire his work. I asked if he could help me with some modification to help get this project on track. He went above and beyond my initial request and basically completed the entire project.

Originally I though a SMAV3 with couple of QEV could do the trick but after some discussion with Jordan we decided to use a SMAV3 activating a MPA3 on a MAV4. Jordan was also able to fit some QEV for a better cycle time.

Clippard SMAV3 installation actuating the MPA3 on top of the MAV4
Some frame modification was needed. The trigger spring tab needed to be removed to make space for the SMAV3 and some small grinding for clearance.

With the grip on we can still see it has been modified

The first test was performed this summer at Wasaga Paintball in Ontario during their anual big game. Played with it the entire day with no issue. Got a ball jam at one point and the low pressure operation prevented the ball from chopping.
For the marker speed, you can still overshoot it if you go fast but its quick enough for me and the trigger pull is super light. Not and expert on BPS but I would guess its in the 8-9bps range

Brough it at the MacDev tent at the end of the day and ask the tech to check my board. Took him few seconds to understand what was going on with the chunk of brass in the frame... 🤣

Overall, great project, great result and really glad to had help from Kit and Jordan to make this happen.

            This is awesome.

Now what does all that brass weigh? A little more than a 9v I suppose?

Couple of ounce more but no major difference. Also the weight on in the hand so the balance stay roughly the same.
When you are use to use an automag or an autococker this is super light

Wow that was nicely done, strong work. I'm unfamiliar with MacDev, but aren't they mass producing a mech now?

That was my favorite part 😁

Really awesome build, good sir! Looks like it turned out great!

This is extremely cool. Love this mech-the-world trend MCBs got going right now.

Awesome how consistent is the velocity with different trigger pulls?

I did not notice a big difference in velocity, with the QEV it cycle quite fast and even at 8bps it seem consistent. If you try to go quicker some shot will just not fire but no major impact on velocity.
As long as the MAV4 is activated it will cycle

Okay. Revisiting this build. I just bought a clpne in a craigslist lot. Board doesnt power up. Its $129 for a new board. How much was the pneumatic bits crammed into your build? I need this in my life.

It might be sligtly more expensive to go to pneumatic but its one of my favorite gun for semi play. Super smooth and quick.

You need to see how much you can get those parts
                        SMAV3
                        MPA3
                        MAV4
                        QEV (if you want)
Misc fittings (mostly straight barbs fitting and 90 degree barbs fitting)

I think I still have a MAV 4 but if might be cheaper to buy one on ebay like I did.

For the install I think Jordan mentionned the manifold was not needed and he could have tap directly in the plate in the body. He would be your best contact for the work needed to make one since he assembled it for me.
