First Strike Round through Apex Tip

I am currently using a EMF100 and have a Lapco rifled .686 barrel. I am thinking of using an Apex tip for my round balls with a 0-full backspin set and the Apex tip still on with a 0 for my FSR.
Has anyone used this setup? Is there any issue with rifling then backspinning a roundball? If you have an apex tip on, have you accidentally shot a first strike round with full backspin what happened? Is there any wear on the apex tip from zero backspin? Finally does the Apex tip cause any issue with the first strike round with a 0 backspin setup?

I've never done it, but I don't think it's be good for the ramp. I'd expect the fins would damage the rubber ramp

Even at 0 incline, I think the round would/could hit the ramp a bit and cause velocity and accuracy issues (again, just a guess on my part)

I'm assuming you're planning to keep some mags filled with roundball and others with FSR?

On my mech double ion, I can see the apex flaps on the 0 setting for both barrels while looking down them, but its a small amount.

It has me convinced they are working even at the 0 setting.

(I have all american freak ready tips. And apex 2s)

That being said, I would think you are going to have issues shooting fs rounds with apex tips even at 0 setting.

I also think the apex ramp will tear from a fs hammering it. Once tore the ramps don't work well for round ball either.

I advise you look down your barrel and make sure the ramp is completely out of view st a 0 setting.

But if it clears, and you don't forget to turn the apex off, it should work.

Thank you BrickHaus and JeepDVLZ45 you both were thinking exactly what i was thinking and worrying about. The cost to run the lapco tip adapter is not bad, but you know what they say about 20 dollars being 20 dollars.

But with a lapco adapter , you can simply unthread your tip and shoot fs rounds no?

You are absolutely right, I was just thinking about being lazy and leaving it on so i do not have to carry and possibly loose my tip. That or run just first strike or just round ball for the game.
My thought was have 4-6 mags of roundball and 2-4 first strike in my load out, so i could save on cost as well as if there are times that i do not need first strike.
I have a DW barrel with freak tip and will try that before i buy the adapter. It will not let me know everything but it will let me know enough.

They both kind of do the same thing. But you could run an apex 2 and pull it off for FS rounds.

I had a buddy that use to keep and Apex2 in a 100 round pod. He would Slide it on at big games when he needed that lil extra loft. I will never forget it. I’m trying to shoot this guy in the distance up hill and he’s just got a lil more range then me. My boy J slides in and is like watch this. Pulls his pod slides the thing on he turns to me and says two clicks up, and gogs the guy in the face first shot out of his T2 pump. Slides it off throws it back in the pack. I didn’t even know what an Apex was at the time.

But the First Strike dose the same thing better. I would just switch out barrels based on the type of paint I’m slinging for the day.

Another issue with this. Idea is, fs rounds typically chrono 20 ish fps higher than round ball. Furthermore a lot of fields require fs rounds to be at 250 fps.

Even if allowed to run fs at 280, you would likely have to chrono your round paint around 250 to use both interchangeably.

That being said, apex tips do shoot better with paint chronod lower than 280, but it seems like a hard thing to manage all around.

Id just pick your poison for the game and roll 9ne of the other.

^^^This is a big one. There's no good way to regulate that sort of thing on-field if there are separate round ball & FS velocity restrictions.

Apex 2 balls hit the ramp even at 0 clicks. An Apex 1 does not though. If you chrono your fsr at 280, it should be still good to use with round all.

Gosh darn it Knight4612 I had planned on letting this idea go away. Now with this current info i must know and will have to test it out, seeing as i have a apex 1 and 2. Thank you good sir.

I've done it. Had 0 issues firing first strikes on 0 ramp with the apex 2. I like to keep some roundball in case someone gets too close for FSR. Also like to put down some long range suppressive fire sometimes, and round balls are cheaper so throwing 20-30 balls downrange is no big deal. Plus getting a long ball with that apex is a different kind of good feeling, as it's rare it actually happens.
