    Rtp project thread.

I figured the rtp section is too dead, so rather than getting this project complete, THEN sharing. I figured I'd start a build thread like the many in the sheridan section. Maybe itll get you guys to knock some dust off of your rtp beauties and make something with em.

Long story short, I got this beautiful RTP rifle project from loophole. I have me walz near complete, so Im eyeing the simpler tasks on this one to fill time.

This is a 22" barreled side feed stainless rifle with a .678 bored barrel. And a full length bead rail.

things I know I need to do; listed from easiest to most difficult.

tap the rear cap for mounting screws

    Add an rva (optional)

Thad adapter and feed plug design

    Stock to be made

    Bolt to be made.

I also noticed the solder between the barrel and the bead rail has failed. Im going to attempt to get at least part of it re attached. But Im leary. The brass/ and thin walled feed tube are going to pose a challenge. That'll be one of the last things I try, as It should work as is. All solder joints are strong where the lower tube meets the rest. I just feel the barrel being able to lash will make the solder joint continue to crack in time. So I should address it. This bit may be something I send out to fix.

I also wonder what happened to the original parts? I can't imagine this one never got finished, but it seems strange Im missing the bolt especially as that is would have been one of a kind. But oh well. The fun is the journey, not the destination.

Last night, I modeled up my first attempt at a thad adapter. It needs tweaks, but Im more than happy with the results.

I found an rc car suspension spring that is working, but its heavier than needed. I think Ill simply make the spring cavity on the pusher deeper first. To release some pressure, but I will also consider cutting the spring.

I tapped my hole for 10/32, and used one of my shoulder bolts I miss ordered on my walz as a handle.

    It works!!

    Tweaks to make.

    Deeper spring cavity
Wider overall diameter to allow less crabbing.
Mqybe change the gate profile some.
the hole on the body needs to be filed. Paint snags it and has to pushed past the catch. I'd prefer to be able dump a 10 rounder on it.

Thats probably all Ill get done in the short term.

I was the third or fourth owner and this is the post from the original owner

"A super cool project that I never got around to finishing. I was working with Rick on trying to make an AutoViper that looked like a double barreled shotgun. The idea was for a 20-ball springfeed on the right, and the barrel on the left. The goal was for it to be powered by a tank-in-stock. Would make a great project for someone. Air mount and stock screw already soldered in, along with valve position."

I don't think it ever had a bolt or trigger group. Was just bought as a project from Rick!

Keep on chugging man! I can't wait to see her finished

Thanks for the back story! Thats a bummer. I have 2 other vipers. One of the bolts looks like it could work, but the tri tube design would require me to scallop the read shoulder to get around the lower tube.

I think Ill model that bolt and 3d print one with the scallop to confirm the air transfer port and cocking lug positions are proper. Then Ill have to try to make one by hand without a lathe.... challenge accepted.

Im curious as to how they were going to achieve a spring feed with the thad adapter cut.. im not planning on spring feeding. But I dont see how it would have worked with the thad gate on the muzzle end..
          Working...
