Small enough for defy professional paint which is .680-683. I don’t have any smaller paint to test other than reballs. But it doesn’t reliably stop reballs and that’s with a wedgit on each side.

I actually feel much more confident about trying this after learning some of you folks will de-solder Sheridans for other mods, so if I screw this up too bad I just have to send it in for a replacement middle tube.

Does anyone make, or is it possible to make a .675 3D printed sphere to test for roll-out?

Anyone attempt to do this with Stainless Steel?

@Toestr: Aha, thanks that was the part I wasn't grasping for some reason. Reading back through the instructions it makes perfect sense now.

You use the edge of the head to make the wedgit.

And if you over do it you can drive a socket down the tube to push them back towards the outside

@JonM: Okay thanks, that's very helpful!

Second question; since the dents I'm seeing in the pics are oblong, are multiple hits required? As in, do you 'set-and-whack' a couple of times in a line to make a Wedgit, or is it just one or two whacks on the same spot?

Just trying to understand the process here; the two markers I want to mod this way are an absolutely beautiful P68-SC that I got for a song and a PGP that I first bought back in 1995 and have lots of fond memories of. Also, I'm new at this whole "modding guns" thing...back in the day I just used them lol. I'm sure you can understand why I don't want to fuck this up, as this really does seem like a mod where fatal errors can happen.

Considering how soft brass is, you don’t want to drive it home. Take it slow like if you were setting a nail. A few love taps is often all it takes. Most importantly, check your work often to make sure you don’t overdo it. The wedgits just need to hold a ball in place. You’ll get a feel for it after a few whacks. As for the angle, try to keep the head as perpendicular to the barrel as possible.

Speaking as someone who wants to attempt this mod who is also a carpenter...care to put the actual "hammer swing" into terms I can relate to? As in, when doing a Wedgit am I setting a nail or actually driving it?

Also, from the pictures it looks like the end result is oblong; at what angle do you hold the nail when striking it? From what I see that looks important too.

I admit I'm a chicken about putting dents in barrels.

I used Jon's marking and backup method. For the dents, I welded washers on to pieces of rod, then printed a jig to hold them. I put the jig in a bench vise and squish gently. The jig ends up broken, but I print another.

It's been good for our recent 0.675 paint.

For a mandrel, I turned down a gas thru grip, then filed flats on the sides for the depth I wanted. I couldn't see lining up a full groove on the mandrel without printing a more fancy jig, and I'm not sure I would want the sharper edges from that [?].

This process will also show you whether or not your breech end is still round. One of mine was not, but the mandrel fixed that.

Did this to my KP recently... I used a purpose-ground punch instead of a nail but otherwise followed the directions.

Mine's a side tube, so I went diagonally opposite instead of side to side.
