    DIY 98 Custom E-bolt - a long term project ...

    Hello MCB,

I just got a cheap 98 project, and ive been wanting to start an electro project for a bit (and the stuff I'm looking for doesn't comes all that often) ... so "naturally" why not merge the 2?
Finding a kit is close to impossible and pricy ... so im planinong to:
    - Picking up an Impulse ram from here or the 'bay ...
    - For the board, either Curt's or make my own ...
    - Of course, put some eyes on there ...
    - Add or make a double trigger ...
    - Clamping feedneck ...

But, the big question is figuring out which solenoid to use ... Any idea?

Ill keep posting here as progress happen ... sloooooowwwwwlllllyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

    Thanks for watching,
    X

If you haven't already, you should join the Model 98 Enthusiasts group on facebook. One of the members there will be selling a run of freshly machined 2-way E-bolt rams in the next couple weeks.

As for noids, I'm using a Mac43 for my build. They're nice and small, but they do require more voltage than some others. That will limit your board choice. Otherwise, the Humphrey noid used in early 2000s intimidators is the usual choice.

I think MAC 43A-AAA-RFEJ would work, but I can't find it anywhere 😣

Awesome, thanks for the info, unfortunately I don't do face de book ... but I'd love to get a hold of one of those "2-way e-bolt"
Anyone here gonna get one? Would love to piggy back 😅

For the solenoid, thanks a lot for the pointer.
WHere do you source them from?
I was going to look at Clippard or use the one from the donor impulse ...

I'm going to run a Pimp solenoid (SMC), mostly because I have one and it's rated up to 175psi input pressure, so if I need to really jack the LPR up I can.

That reminds me, I need to finish that project.
And God turned to Gabriel and said: “I shall create a land called Canada of outstanding natural beauty, with majestic mountains soaring with eagles, sparkling lakes abundant with bass and trout, forests full of elk and moose, and rivers stocked with salmon. I shall make the land rich in oil so the inhabitants prosper and call them Canadians, and they shall be praised as the friendliest of all people.”

“But Lord,” asked Gabriel, “Is this not too generous to these Canadians?”

And God replied, “Just wait and see the neighbors I shall inflict upon them."

Thanks, that one will work 👍
Fo some reason I could not find it on the smc website ... 😒

If the guy making the ram doesn't come through, you could look into a Promaster ram which has been done before. They're a pain to rebuild but they're completely self contained so you won't have to make a housing.

Thinking about the project as a whole, I also got a A5 that I did some work to it, it would probably be a good candidate for this too ...
already has a vasa and the frame is a bit easier to work on than the 98 ...
Would the 98 e-bolt/ram fit into the A5?
        Any thoughts?

They will not. The back cap on an A5 is very very different from a 98.

Thanks, now i have the 98 on hand, i see the differences better ...

Got 2 sets of eyes from an old ION project, but i dont see them playing nice with the 98 ... might have to find some reflective eyes ...

            Decided on a few things:
            - Going to use Curt's board
            - Going to use an impulse ram

Kinda decided to have the LCD screen in the grip and get some clear grip panels, but this mean i would have to move the battery out of the grip ... likely into the forward grip.

Still deciding whether to use the ION eyes i have or get some DM/Proto eyes ...

Now i need to settle down on a location for the LPR and get a few parts ...

Easiest way to place the LPR is to use an ASA with 2 output ports. Run a 90* fitting off one side, use a cocker LPR.

Looks like I got most of the parts I need (the only missing are the feedneck and maybe the valve stem).
Now I need to decide if I'm gonna do the 98 or the A5 ... Any thoughts/input?

I like the idea of the 98, no VASA on it, so it would have to get a kit or an ASA/Reg unit and the front grip would do good batter compartment, but disassembly is a pain, on the other hand, the A5 had easier grip disassembly and VASA from design, but the battery might have to be mounted externally ...
Also, my 98 is in much better shape then my A5 ...

Ok, finally got all the parts on hand and decided on the 98 (might do the A5 later ...)

The only piece missing are a pair of clear grip panels.
Anyone has a pair or know where to get some?
