    Looking for an Angel, so questions.

    Heyo. Looking to maybe pick up an Angel, but I have a few questions. I've never owned an Angel, so any answers will help me determine what model(s) I will keep my eyes open for.

    -Which models are more reliable?
    -What's the parts market like? Are battery packs & chargers still available for anything pre-2005? What about other parts?
    -How difficult is the PM7 board mod for older Angels? If batt packs/chargers are hard to find I'd be very interested in getting or modding something to take a 9 volt.
    -Sort of an extension of the reliability question, would I generally be better off looking for something like a G7 or newer as opposed to the LED/LCD/IR3?
    -Which models are easier to work on?

    My initial thoughts: I'm not opposed to an older model like the LCDs provided there's a good parts market & batt packs and chargers are available. Not a fan of the 90* frames. I really like the look of the G7s. I just don't really know what model(s) fit what I'd like. Mainly looking for reliability & a good replacement parts market. I'm fine with tearing stuff apart, but if there's a clear winner in the maintenance department I'd look into it.

    Any input would be appreciated. Thanks for reading.

    Anything pre-A1 is pretty darn reliable. I find the LCD/IR3 to be the most reliable.

    -What's the parts market like? Are battery packs & chargers still available for anything pre-2005? What about other parts?

    Batteries are easy enough to come by or could be made yourself. There were also people stacking together 2032 button batteries at one point in time. Parts are easy to come by still IMO. Places like ZeroX (one battery option) do some board repairs.

    -How difficult is the PM7 board mod for older Angels? If batt packs/chargers are hard to find I'd be very interested in getting or modding something to take a 9 volt.

    The hard part is lining up the board inside the frame. Someone makes an installation kit on eBay. Otherwise it's plug and play (PMR board also works).

    -Sort of an extension of the reliability question, would I generally be better off looking for something like a G7 or newer as opposed to the LED/LCD/IR3?

    Starting with the 06 Speed/G7 they made it so the bolt gets pushed forward when you close/lock the breech to prevent rollback. So anything before that you could run into issues with a force feed loader. Can't personally speak to how much of an issue that really is. I think the breech seal on the newer ones are harder to come across since at some point they switched from orings to a special seal. The newer ones also use rubber bits that can get lost over time and be hard to replace. Also consider that starting with the lower pressure models like the Speed and A4 you can no longer use high pressure tanks. There's a mod to restack the minireg springs but that's not ideal IMO. A4 Fly and newer had eyes, anything before that had to be added custom.

    They are all about the same to me.

      If a LP tank is a requirement then that rules out quite a few options. I'm not buying a LP tank/reg for one paintgun. Thank you for the info.

    My experience is limited, but I can tell you that my LCD has been much more reliable than the IR3/Speeds that I've come across. Only caveat to the older Angels is the lack of eyes. So far it hasn't been a problem for me, but I tend to shoot short bursts rather than sustained fire. My Pinokio Speed has kept up very well.

      I'm fine shooting blind markers. Still have a 2k2 BKO & the only times I would chop is when I would run a Revolution on it. Less to go wrong as well. You don't need eyes if the loader can keep up.

    Parts for LCD are easier to find than for the Speed and subsequent G series. The 06 Speed still has some NOS floating around.
    I have been a HUGE fan, but parts availability, the collector culture, etc. made it a tough niche to find good stuff in. Have your wallet ready and join as many of the Angel groups on FB that you can. Folks on there will help with a build up until the point that you cross to collector then you find everyone is a hoarder....

    IF you are going to buy an A1 make sure it's a Fly. The Chinese made standard ones are trash.

      I love ICD guns & there's plenty of hoarders there too, lol. I'm used to it. Personally I'm fine running factory parts in most paintguns unless it's a no-brainer like the Inception hammer for the Resurrection.

    There is an aftermarket board available - the Enoch board - which has a ton of features including eye support and takes 9v batteries.

    I'm thinking about grabbing one at some point, but there hasn't been an issue with my LCD yet so I'm reluctant to spend the $$$ right now.

    I like Angels - they're well designed and pretty much tanks for the first couple iterations. The quality started to drop near the end of the company's life, unfortunately.

    You should invest in an Angel tool kit unless you're ok sending it to someone for the initial setup... I bought mine for cheap ($25ish) and have found it invaluable for setting LPR pressure and adjusting the ram on my project guns.

      Is there a lot to set up with an Angel? Never owned one before, but I'm fine with tweaking stuff & tearing things apart. Perhaps I should spend some time on Youtube & do some learnin'.

      Most of it's set-and-forget stuff. The LPR needs to be set to the correct pressure via shims, and the ram spacing and snapring need to be set. You can play with the dwell a bit, but usually you set that and leave it as well.

      There's a great manual kicking around online that explains a lot, I'll try to find it if you don't.

      i went from a spyder to the G6R and sold it after a season (or close to it) and finally picked up an Angel A1. I knew i wanted newer and i knew the A1 was made overseas which didnt really phase me. Most everything in my life is made overseas... lol
      i also wanted a FLY of whatever model i would get. There are a bunch of A1's out there and a few more FLY's. the RAM engine is a pain in the a$$ though. IDK why they chose to make it non-serviceable. but there are a ton of modified RAM engines out there that are rebuild-able. and the predator RAM was build from the ground up to be serviceable. A serviceable RAM engine is a must have for me.
      As far as tuning, once they are set, they are fine. Apparently the FLY regs are consistent but the mini-regs are sometimes a point of contention.

      like most markers, once you become familiar with them, theyre easy.

      i had an LCD for a few months prior. needed a new battery pack, new temp sensor on the PCB, a few o-rings, and a reg rebuild. I sold it because it was blind and heavy though.

      i do like pulling out the angel (either one) on the field and people immediately knowing exactly what it is... and all the oooohhhh's and aaaahhh's lol

      ive heard people say that the G7 was the last great angle made (for what its worth) but i fell head over heels for the A1 fly.
      IDK if there was an overlap with high pressure and eyes though so i think youll have to go blind to get high pressure (I think).

        I'm a big fan fan of the original Angels. I have two LEDs and love them. Had about a dozen LEDs/LCDs over the years. LCDs are a little more user friendly than the LEDs but they you should have no trepidation trying to work on them. As for factory and aftermarket parts, they are still out there. People post nos stuff on Ebay often.

        They are very fun to shoot. I love the way they sound, and the tiny hop/recoil of ghe LEDs. Long story short, go get one!

          Reviving this post as I am also searching for an angel. Nothing special though,As it will be my first WDP . What would be the average Market price for a solid color LED or LCD these days as I do not want to overpay.

              I'm just in the market for a standard angel to be honest, No eyes or anything special like fancy boards and all that, preferably a single trigger in any color.
              I like the simpler look of the originals.However I do enjoy seeing the private label versions but I know I probably couldn't justify their cost.

            Another question: to work around the HP/LP tank issue, could I simply swap the HPR and run my HP output bottle? I see the fire grips/regulators are proprietary on the 05s and onward, but could I do something like with an A4 or IR3?
